I think it is a really good idea for schools to conduct lessons in English for a number of reasons. First and foremost they are learning a "global" language, although it could as easily be Arabic, French, Spanish or Russian. It's been discussed several times in this forum about the benefits of continual usage as a means of improving language skills, using English as the common language across a variety of different subjects will ensure that the maximum amount of "exposure" will be given to it, it will start to become the "norm" and will feel less like a foreign language. It is very important, however, to ensure that the use of English in the classroom does not impact on the cultural significance of using "native" language although it shouldn't be a problem if properly managed as there are a number of subjects which lend themselves more to the use of the native tongue ie Religious instruction, Specific subjects for the native language, grammar, literature etc.

English as medium of instruction was preferably accepted in majority of schools, as English is a global language and importance is given to this. but one should not forget his native language as you have start your conversation in your mother language, so due importance should be given to it also. one should not forget his roots.

For art subjects like History, Geography, Philosophy, native languages are the best. But for Science subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science English is the best language medium for instructions.

I prefer English. Because all information and sciences are represented by English language. So students will be able to get knowledge easily.

As a teacher that uses English language to teach Arab Nationals, I have had seen that teaching in the non-native langague has many difficulties.

Many times I find myself teaching an English course, instead of the Math or Sciences I teach. The students find it so hard for them to understand the methodology, and at the same time understand the definitions and meanings of new terminology.

So yes, I really prefere that the Science, Math, Social, and all other subjects are taught in the native language.

Regarding the fact that English is considered to be a "Global Language" I see that if countries focus on their own language they can overcome that, especially the Arab countries, as they are many, and are considered a huge demographic part of the world; geographically and number wise.

To keep it simple: I support native language.

replies are welcomed :D
