How do you: a) deal with a gifted person (personally and professionally) and b) ensure they continue to thrive in an average environment?

Gifted (highly intelligent/creative) individuals are often misunderstood and also find it extremely difficult to continue in an average environment. They often disappear in the cracks and 'leave' society.

There is nothing personal if you are involved professionaly with a gifted person.

You have to continually keep him engaged in activities leading to solutions that would better performance or in designs that would become base of future development activities. Of course reward is a way to show your appreciation towards them but more effective way would be to be sincere to them and often talk to them about their professional growth in line with their personal life.

This is more than true. It happens very often. A very talented person is ignored due to some minor reason which results in two way devastation.

1. The gifted person is pushed to the wall.

2. The quality of task is affected which otherwise could be much improved with the participation of this neglected person.

So, I think that a broad analysis of the potential persons to perform a task can remove this drawback to some extent. Broad analysis means a flexibility in selection criteria.
