Hobbies and Interest both are different.  Hobby is the thing which we use for time passing at our leisure time.  But, Interest is according to the individual choice.  Interest will differ from person to person depends upon their own choice individually.

Yes hobbies are things that people do at leisure time and because sometimes spare time is hard to find one would go an extra mile to fit there hobbies in there schedule. E.g reading, going to the gym, jogging, travelling etc. Hobbies are nearly things that one must do to fill complete, while interests are not yet an obsession but things that one can do to improve themselves and once its accomplished then you are done with it. E.g  I too have an interest in learning Arabic language and once I've learned it I'll use it but I'll not need to continue going to class to learn.

Another example, old people's hobby is gardening. However, interest can be describe as a feeling of wanting to know or learn about something. For example, i have the interest in learning Arabic language in my near future.

A "hobby" is a pass time. It's something that interests you and that you spend some time doing. An "interest" in something can mean different things. It could mean that you have a curiosity about something, an involvement in a crusade, or mission, or infer that a more concentrated effort or financial involvement in something, whether for profit or charity.
