Manmohan SreedhanHead of Maintenance 'Stick to your job,' they told me. 'In your mid-forties, you can't afford to take risks,' they said. My job with a premier oil company in India was for long considered top notch, but with the changing economy, I knew it wasn't likely to be enough in the long run. My best chance was a good job in the Middle East. The pundits prophesied that most jobs were for specialists and my experience was too varied. But I didn't give up on the chance to find a job in the Middle East. I responded to ads, wrote to companies, activated contacts, registered on many job sites. Nothing worked. Then someone advised me about Bayt. I used their CV Builder, posted my CV, created a few saved searches. "Don't get too hopeful, it's just another well-presented job site," I told myself. My job left little time to mount more focused job-hunts and time was running out. Then the HotJobs of the Week mailers from Bayt.com started arriving. I could peek at some of the best jobs without wasting time. Occasional matches suiting my aspirations started turning up. I began feeling more hopeful! Responses started to come in. Varied experience had its takers after all! Then in one of the weekly Bayt.com mailers, I saw a job posting from a UAE oil company. They were recruiting for a multi-disciplinary maintenance person for their pipelines and depots. One main requirement specified was varied experience! Just what I was looking for and from one of the most prestigious names in the Middle East! A brief cover letter using the Bayt.com website during the coffee break and in a jiffy my CV was on its way! I soon got an email from the company telling me that they had short-listed my CV. A telephone interview was scheduled. It went well and was followed up with an invitation to Abu Dhabi for a final interview. I have happily accepted their offer for the position of Head of Maintenance. Against all odds, I have landed a perfect job! |
