Residents in Qatar are mostly there for a job, and thus would be coming from abroad. Those coming from western countries like Canada and the UK to work in Qatar can simply change their home country driving license for the Qatari one at the Medinat Khalifat Traffic Department without taking a driving test.
Documents required:
- Passport or ID card
- Three photos
- Original driving license
- Sponsor’s ID
- Your sponsor has to sign / stamp a form and may also have to provide a letter.
Residents of other nationalities have to do a driving test in order to get their local driving license. However it is compulsory that these Applicants have a residence permit in order to be able to apply for a Qatari driving license. In order to issue a local driving license, the usual procedure includes an eye test and a written test.
