Basic Function

• Performs skilled electrical maintenance. He should have the full knowledge of electrical safety in medium voltage and low voltage. Knows the handling of electrical tools and electrical testing equipment.

• Capable of reading electrical single line drawings, wiring diagrams schematic drawings. Knowledge of electric materials, medium voltage and low voltage cable, wires, conduits, installation of electrical equipment, wiring. Diagnoses faults in electrical circuits. Repairs all electrical equipment.

• Should have knowledge about low voltage and medium voltage switch gears, motor control centers, transformers, vacuum and air circuit breakers, different types of motors and UPS system. Conducts preventive maintenance in electrical equipment and capable of doing relay calibration in protective relays.

Organizational Relationships

• Reports to the Electrical Engineer on a daily basis

• Working relationships with all Mechanical Technician, Operators, Shift Supervisors and any person/department as circumstances dictate.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Receives priorities, verbal assignments and instructions from electrical Engineer for priorities to be attended to for the day. Obtains necessary work permits, safety precautions, understanding of the job, location, electrical lock out procedure according to plant safety rules. Housekeepers after completion of the job, updates and makes history reports as completed.

• Conducts testing in electrical circuits, power cables, switches, gears, motors, circuit breakers with multi-amp test units and other instruments. He should know switching procedures of electrical feeders etc.



• Responds diagnosing faults and repairing. Consults with production to understand the problem and take decision to trouble shoot. Corrects with all electrical safety to attend on-line trouble shoots in low and medium voltage.

• Attends job related in low and medium voltage, switch gears, compressors in different type of motors, UPS system, motor control, centers, transformers, air and vacuum circuit breakers, power and control cables, generator, communication system, lighting, fire alarm system, batteries.

• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance of electrical equipment. Observes abnormal conditions and clears before failure. Maintains updated records and history about preventive maintenance. Participates to do calibration of protective relays in the plant.

• Carries out other similar or related duties as assigned such as giving assistance to instrumentation. Observes all safety and fire regulations in the plant. Keeps job site and work shop clean and tidy. Salvages parts and material wherever possible and monitors the work of contractors crews. Also attends regular tool box safety meeting and occasionally, makes presentations. Acts as a member of fire and rescue team, when assigned and provides advice and direction to lower level technicians and trainees.

• Cooperation & good communication with Electrical Engineer and other workers. Keeps tools testing equipment in good order. Good house keeping in the work area, participates adequate attention in extracting necessary workmanship from the sub-contractors.

• Works according to well defined procedures and craft standards. Keeps advised of progress and checks work upon completion, with occasional spot checking of non-routine or complex work.
• Be on call to cover maintenance/breakdown weekend and night time duty coverage.

Communication

• Contacts with Shift Supervisors, Electrical/Mechanical Engineers, & Production Engineer.
• Routine contacts with own and next higher level in own and other sections for exchange of information and general coordination of work.


Authority

• Should have the ability to handle the department in the absence of Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Compétences

Educational Qualification

• Completion of Secondary (12 years) education followed by 3 years technical training or 3 years diploma / degree in electrical.

Experience

• 3-5 years experience in inside and outside maintenance duties.

Special Training / Skill

• On-the-job training in nonwovens plant electrical maintenance.
