The
Turnaround Cost Engineer is responsible for delivering credible, timely, and consistent cost control, forecasting, and reporting in support of Turnaround activities. The role enables disciplined financial performance through standardized cost engineering practices, capability development within the cost control function, and support for safe, affordable, and reliable asset delivery.
What’s the Role This position supports site‑based Turnarounds and partners closely with Turnaround Execution, Planning & Scheduling, Contracting & Procurement, and Finance to ensure cost transparency, compliance with cost control standards, and informed decision‑making. The role is primarily an individual contributor with strong interfaces across execution teams and vendors, while also providing hands‑on coaching, guidance, and technical support to junior cost control engineers during planning, execution, and close‑out phases.
What You’ll Be Doing- Develop, maintain, and update phase‑appropriate cost estimates for Turnaround scopes
- Perform cost tracking, forecasting, accruals, and variance analysis throughout execution
- Manage commitments, purchase orders, work orders, and invoice validation in alignment with SAP processes
- Prepare routine cost reports and dashboards, highlighting trends, risks, and forecast changes
- Support contingency planning, drawdown tracking, and cost risk analysis
- Interface with contractors to review cost performance, progress, and forecast accuracy
- Support close‑out activities including final cost reconciliation, documentation, and performance capture
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cost control work processes and reporting standards
What You Bring Experience & Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience in cost engineering, project controls, maintenance, STO, or turnaround environments
- Experience in oil & gas refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing facilities preferred
- Ability to support extended or flexible work hours during Turnaround execution windows
Skills & Capabilities- Expert knowledge of cost estimating, forecasting, accruals, and change management
- Proficiency in SAP, Prometheus STO, Primavera P6, and advanced Excel
- Familiarity with cost tracking/reporting tools (e.g., Track, Power BI)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Clear written and verbal communication with strong attention to detail
