Founded in 1965 by an ambitious 17 year old Fred DeLuca, who opened his first Sub shop, 'Pete's Super Submarines', in his hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut in the USA. In 1974, the Subway brand's first franchise opened and in 1994 David Morrisey opened the first Subway store in the United Kingdom (UK) and Republic of Ireland market. The Subway brand has recently opened its 2000th location in the UK and Ireland, and with more than 43,000 Subway stores in over 105 countries, Subway is the number one QSR brand by total store count. In 2014, Kout Food Group acquired the franchise opportunity to operate in the UK market and invested in 6 locations within the existing Little Chef and Burger King roadside estate. The combination of the Subway brand with existing Kout Food Group locations has proved to be a successful operating platform creating desire to visit and engagement with the consumer target audience. Kout Food Group will pursue further opportunities with Subway within the United Kingdom and within markets targeted for future success.
