Role Description
- The Cobol developer is accountable for the application changes within projects and
for the application maintenance within the incident management processes (L3 support). - The Cobol developer will work with the relevant application stakeholders (business & IT) and ensure that changes, risks, issues and compliance gaps are effectively identified and managed in line with DB IT risk, compliance policies, the application road map and the defined business requirements.
- This role expects the candidate to have experience in Cobol development,
testing (processing unit & system tests as well as supporting the test management with
E2E tests), discussing the requirements and implementation results with the stakeholders as well as documenting the results.

Your key responsibilities
- Your major responsibility will focus on changing and maintaining the
COBOL applications of the product area ‘Sales Key & Provision Platforms’,
squad ‘PB Commission Platforms’.
The squad landscape includes applications for managing, processing and reporting the
organization of residence, the structure and data of the field service agents and the commissions. - You will be part of software development projects with a focus on implementing and testing application requirements (business and IT requirements), accompanying the software deployment processes for guaranteeing a successful transfer to production as well as constantly updating application documentation.
Your skills and experience
- Experience in COBOL and database (SQL and table organization) is a must. Skills in CICS, 3270 programming and UC4 scheduling are good to have.
- Experience with tooling across the Software Development Lifecycle / DevOps:
Jira, HP ALM, Confluence or comparable tools. - Experience in application governance / development guidelines.
- Strong ability to manage unexpected events:
Control and deal with them quickly and efficiently.
When confronted with a problem, you will need to collect information, analyze situation, point out solutions and apply them to solve perfectly in reasonable time. - Pro-active team player with very good communication and excellent English language skills for interacting with stakeholders.
German language skills are a big plus but not mandatory. - Also nice to have but not mandatory:
- Experience in other programming languages as Java, Visual Basic .NET and / or C#.
- Experience in working together with Agile/SCRUM teams and their methods and tooling.
