Summary


The Business Unit Risk Management Senior Consultant is responsible for performing review and challenge and monitoring compliance with Northern Trust’s risk management programs.  The Senior Consultant works to detect and advises management of potential risk issues and recommends procedural changes to mitigate risk.  They are responsible for working with other Northern Trust partners to review and challenge self-assessments, risk decisions, and ensure proper resolution, escalation and reporting. 


You may also execute a broader role across the team in terms of recommending or developing operational efficiencies and/or producing and delivering presentations which assist the wider risk management department with understanding root causes of control gaps, industry trends, peer practices, etc.  


You will be part of a dedicated and outstanding team that focuses on promoting control awareness and properly manage risks within the Non-Financial Risk Management organization. 


Responsibilities


  • Support review and challenge efforts as part of an enterprise-wide risk and control program transformation.
  • Provide guidance to Teams and Program owners.
  • Support in key data gathering (audit and regulatory issues, RCSA status, etc.) for periodic risk management commentary.  
  • Influence behaviors to reduce risk and foster a strong operational risk management culture throughout the enterprise. 
  • Assess and report on program performance at various levels and support presentations on program results in various forums and committees.
  • Help shape best practices, standards, and toolkit.
  • Assist in the develop and implementation of monitoring, testing, oversight framework(s), and holistic governance structures
  • Collaborate with leads of other programs (e.g. Resiliency) to ensure optimal integration and alignment to better identify, understand, track, and mitigate risk
  • Participate in the delivery of RCSA training for the different personas across the lines of defense
  • Perform continuous monitoring with improvement planning
  • Collaborate with testing functions across all lines of defense as part of the risk program integration

Knowledge and Skills


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Significant experience in Risks and Controls Self-Assessment and Controls testing
  • Adequate experience in executing projects including inherent risk assessment, controls assessment and residual risk assessment
  • Strong understanding of Operational Risk Frameworks and technology standards and frameworks (NIST/ISO/FFIEC etc.)
  • Adequate understanding of information security, risk assessments, operational risk management principles. 
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills, including working partners across multiple functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy
  • Ability to synthesize large amount of data and provide clear and concise summaries

Employment Experience


  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 7 or more years of experiences in managing projects related to risk and control assessment, audit services experience
  • Experience with big4 accounting firms is preferrable
