Within IBM Infrastructure, the IBM Cloud Network Underlay team is responsible for building and maintaining world class network infrastructures that make data flow across IBM Cloud possible. This includes AI workloads and ensuring 5 9s availability. We operate across 40+ DCs and as many PoPs across the world.

Your role and responsibilities

Build and maintain software and related delivery pipelines for Enterprise SONiC building on open source community SONiC images

• Platform Maintenance & Operations (40%) - Production system management, operational excellence, performance optimization
• Feature Development & Enhancement (35%) - Core MLAG features, integration work, code quality
• Testing & Quality Assurance (15%) - Test implementation, security validation, CI/CD

* Documentation & Knowledge Transfer (10%) - Technical docs, knowledge sharing

Required technical and professional expertise

Bachelor in Engineering in any related discipline (Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics or Communications Engineering) with minimum 10 years of experience.

• Network Protocols (MLAG, BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, CLOS topologies)
• Systems Programming (8+ years C++, multi-threading, Linux)
• Distributed Systems (peer-to-peer, consensus, state sync)
• SONiC Platform (3+ years hands-on experience preferred)
• Development Tools (CMake, gRPC, Redis, Google Test)
• Operations & DevOps (CI/CD, monitoring, production ops)
• Domain Knowledge (datacenter networking, HA, security)
• Soft Skills (problem-solving, communication, leadership)

• Network Troubleshooting Expertise: Experience with troubleshooting and correcting service-affecting issues on the network, including routing protocols, routers, switches, and firewall administration.
  * Network Maintenance Implementation: Experience in planning, scheduling, and implementing network maintenance activities, including software upgrades, hardware replacement, and network infrastructure augments/changes.
  * Network Performance Optimization: Experience with conducting performance analysis and optimization, creating diagrams and other documentation of network environments.
  * Collaboration with External Partners: Experience working with network infrastructure/service providers to identify and correct causes of circuit disruption, as well as hardware vendors to determine causes of device failure/issues.
  * Network Documentation Development: Experience creating network connectivity diagrams and other documentation of live network environments for internal and customer use.
