Job Title: Safety Officer


Department: Health and Safety

Reports To: Health and Safety Manager


Job Summary:

As a Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in fostering a safe and healthy work environment. Your responsibilities include advising on safety topics, conducting risk assessments, updating safety policies, organizing training sessions, inspecting premises for compliance, investigating incidents, and ensuring all safety documentation is accurate and well-maintained. Your goal is to minimize or eliminate health and safety risks and to promote a culture of safety and well-being throughout the organization.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Policy Development and Implementation:


    • Support and enforce OHS policies and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
    • Regularly update and improve safety policies and procedures in line with industry best practices and legal requirements.
  2. Risk Assessment and Management:


    • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and safety inspections to identify potential hazards.
    • Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies and safety plans.
  3. Training and Development:


    • Organize and conduct safety training sessions and drills for employees.
    • Ensure that all employees are aware of and fully understand the company’s safety requirements and procedures.
  4. Incident Investigation and Reporting:


    • Investigate workplace incidents or accidents to determine their causes.
    • Compile reports on incidents and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  5. Safety Inspections and Compliance:


    • Regularly inspect premises to ensure all health and safety standards are met.
    • Monitor compliance with safety procedures and identify areas for improvement.
  6. Communication and Collaboration:


    • Serve as the point of contact for all safety-related matters within the organization.
    • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management about health and safety matters.
  7. Documentation and Record Keeping:


    • Ensure that all safety paperwork is filled out, maintained, and filed correctly.
    • Keep accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities.

RequirementsEssential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, occupational health, or a related field.
  • Certification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in an industrial or corporate setting.
