Position Summary: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Backend Development to design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-based software solutions for our oncology SaaS platform deployed on AWS. The platform is used by cancer patients, clinicians, and healthcare providers and operates in a regulated medical device environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on backend engineer with strong experience in Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot-based applications, modern cloud architecture, API development, and automated testing. This role requires ownership throughout the software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to testing, deployment, and production support. The product is Siemens Healthineers´s cloud-based software solution for patient relationships and care navigation management. It’s designed to connect cancer patients with their clinics online throughout the entire cancer journey. The product used by 35 000+ active cancer patients and healthcare professionals from leading oncology centers in North America and Europe. The candidate in this role will provide strong product development leadership to a team of software engineers and test engineers, working in an agile/scrum environment. Job Description Position Duties: Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot. Build and enhance RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native applications deployed on AWS. Utilize approved AI-assisted software development tools to improve coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and development productivity. Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews. Ensure software solutions meet requirements for reliability, performance, security, and maintainability. Develop and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure high-quality software delivery. Collaborate with QA engineers to improve test coverage and release quality. Perform root cause analysis and resolve software defects and production issues. Champion engineering best practices, code quality, and continuous improvement. Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives. Leverage tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, and Pendo to monitor application health, investigate issues, and improve user experience. Qualifications Required: BE, MSc, MCA, Computer Science or related discipline. Number of year’s related experience: 7-12 years Special Knowledge / Skills: Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of professional software development experience. Strong hands-on experience with Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot. Experience developing REST APIs and microservices architectures. Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, and AI-assisted software development tools. Experience with cloud-native applications deployed on AWS. Strong understanding of software design patterns, object-oriented design, and distributed systems. Experience writing automated unit, integration, and API tests. Experience with Git-based source control systems (GitLab preferred). Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments. Experience with AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, IAM, and CloudWatch. Nice to have: Experience developing healthcare products conforming quality system regulations.
