About your team

You’ll be joining the Sonata Product Development team, which focuses on building and enhancing cloud-native platform capabilities to support our growing direct and intermediated businesses in the region.

About your role

This role is for an experienced Technical Specialist Engineer with strong expertise in Java, Kubernetes, and Cloud technologies. The successful candidate will work within the product development team, gaining a deep understanding of platform services and contributing to key architectural and design decisions for ongoing strategic initiatives.

The candidate should have strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, container orchestration, and cloud-native design patterns, and be capable of guiding development teams on engineering best practices, scalability, resiliency, and performance improvements.

When required, the specialist will also be involved in resolving complex, business-critical production issues—placing them in a frontline position with significant stakeholder interaction. This demands a high degree of ownership, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

The role requires excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—to collaborate with business users, engineering teams, and cross-functional partners at all levels of the organization.

The role also requires close working with colleagues in the UK offices, and as such the candidate may be required to work UK business hours sometimes. On occasions the candidate may also be required to work extended hours/weekends to cover changes and release implementations. This demanding role would perfectly suit a dynamic individual looking to work in a fast-paced environment to ensure the smooth running of business-critical systems.

About You

Key Responsibilities

·        Work with delivery architects to review and design the best technical solutions

·        Ensure development and engineering quality standards are consistently met

·        Own and deliver technically robust, scalable, and secure solutions for assigned projects

·        Provide regular technical updates and reporting to project managers

·        Highlight risks and issues promptly with clear mitigation and resolution plans

·        Interact with customers and stakeholders to understand problems and provide effective solutions or workarounds

·        Produce and maintain technical documentation to support engineering teams

·        Take ownership of issues from first notification through to resolution

·        Ensure platform performance, reliability, and scalability are continuously optimized

·        Perform impact analysis for proposed application or infrastructure changes

·        Identify systemic problem areas and proactively escalate where necessary

Essential Skills / Experience

·        Strong Java expertise (Java 8+), including Collections, Concurrency, Streams, and functional programming

·        Hands-on experience with Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security)

·        Strong experience designing and building microservices-based architectures

·        Experience with build and dependency management tools such as Maven or Gradle

·        Containerization and orchestration expertise using Docker and Kubernetes

·        Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

·        Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or CloudFormation

·        Strong Git skills with branching strategies and code reviews

·        Observability using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry

·        Solid experience with relational databases and performance tuning

·        API security using OAuth2, OIDC, authentication and authorization

·        Testing discipline with unit and integration testing

·        Performance tuning across JVM, application, and database layers

·        Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues

·        Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Desirable Skills / Experience

·        Good knowledge of UNIX/Linux and shell scripting

·        Experience with CI/CD and Agile/SAFe delivery models

·        Exposure to Finance or Investment domain is an advantage
