The Big Data Service (BDS) team in OCI has a charter to offer a managed, cloud-native Big Data Service focused on large-scale data processing and analytics on unstructured data stored in data lakes, and management of the data in data lakes. The service work scope encompasses not just good integration with OCI’s native infrastructure (compute, storage, networking etc.) but also deep integration with other relevant cloud native services in OCI (like Oracle Kubernetes, Data Catalog, ADW, etc.). https://www.oracle.com/big-data/big-data-service/
We are looking for a Senior Manager, Software Development for the BDS team to help drive innovation, operational excellence and customer success for Big Data Service in OCI.
The role comes with a high degree of personal accountability and autonomy and will require effective engagement across all cross-organizational functions to deliver results.
In this role, you will drive the design, development, and integration of state-of-the-art open-source technologies for enabling large-scale enterprises to build their data solutions on OCI. You will collaborate with stakeholders across product, engineering, and science to shape the Data Platform’s roadmap and deliver differentiated value to enterprise customers and partners.

Establish best practices for scalable, secure, and robust deployment of data services, ensuring seamless integration with Oracle’s cloud and application ecosystem.
Shape technical strategy and influence the platform roadmap by translating market and customer requirements into actionable engineering plans.
Foster cross-functional collaboration with product, engineering, science, and enterprise customers to prototype and validate innovative workflows.
Drive pilots and joint initiatives with strategic customers and partners to accelerate adoption of Oracle’s Data Platform offerings.

Manages multiple medium- to large-scale projects or initiatives across teams, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and budgets when applicable are monitored and met. Provides direction to teams on project work, setting priorities, and aligning with business needs. Guides teams on adjusting plans to accommodate resource or timeline changes.
Collaboration & Partnership:
Drives cross-functional partnerships to align expectations and shared objectives across multiple teams. Coaches team members to develop strategic relationships with business leaders, stakeholders, and external partners to foster collaboration and long-term success. Promotes inclusivity by actively seeking and listening to diverse perspectives, ensuring others feel heard and respected.
Problem Solving:
Provides direction to multiple teams on addressing complex operational and/or technical issues as well as providing guidance on analyzing complex data and/or information to identify solutions. Reviews and provides insights into unresolved or critical issues, helping the team to identify potential solutions.

Models engaging in continuous learning to deepen expertise and stay ahead of industry trends, integrating best practices into strategic planning. Leverages feedback to drive personal and team skill improvements. Identifies skill gaps across teams, and empowers team members to pursue learning and knowledge sharing opportunities that build their expertise in new areas and coaches them to apply learnings to advance the organization.

Develops and manages talent acquisition pipeline by leading candidate interviews, monitoring promotion eligibility, and/or orchestrating talent resources.
Required Qualifications
Proven experience leading technical innovation teams in cloud data platforms, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
Deep technical expertise in big data systems like Hadoop, Hive, Spark or equivalent cloud storage and data management technologies enabling large scale data pipelines.
Knowledge and experience with SQL querying, data processing, and database technologies.
Demonstrated track record of delivering complex, high-impact features or platforms from concept to customer adoption and operational stability.
Strong business acumen with the ability to balance strategic vision with operational execution and customer needs.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels including enterprise customers.
Experience driving end-to-end engineering solutions in partnership with cross-functional teams, including science, engineering, and customer-facing roles.
6+ years of engineering or technical leadership experience, with significant recent experience in data infrastructure development and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in building enterprise grade software in cloud (OCI, Azure, AWS, GCP).
Prior contributions to open-source components like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase.
10+ years of engineering or technical leadership experience, with significant recent experience in data infrastructure development and operations.
