Help us make a difference …
In 2005, MARSS began life as a simple concept for an autonomous vessel docking system. Since then the company has expanded rapidly, evolving into a highly successful and diverse global tech solution provider protecting millions of lives, critical infrastructure, military and civil assets throughout the world.
At the heart of all MARSS systems is NiDAR Core - our IoT platform fusing hybrid intelligence and best of breed sensors to provide 360° situational awareness and surveillance, strengthening defense, security and safety.
MARSSians take pride in developing innovative solutions to protect against emerging threats, and working closely with our customers to solve their specific problems without compromising on quality.
MARSS is committed to making a difference - creating efficient and intuitive solutions which make the world a safer, more intelligent place to live.
Headquartered in Monaco and with offices in London, Bristol and Riyadh, MARSS is rapidly expanding worldwide. In order to sustain this continuous growth, we are looking to attract key contributors who can make an impact on the success of the company.
We strive to create an environment and culture that encourages creativity, continuous learning, and individual responsibility to solve problems, add value and achieve professional growth.
With over 16 years of successful operations and a solid order book to secure the future, MARSSians benefit from a unique working environment which combines the flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit found in smaller start-ups with the support, security and professional growth opportunities of an expanding global organisation.
The Position
MARSS is growing, and we need to be able to support an increasing number of customers in very diverse locations. We are building a "remote" support team (based in Monaco) that will work between customers, field engineers, the development team, and local support/delivery teams based in different geographical areas like Riyadh, KSA.
These are everyday tasks for the role, which is based in Riyadh and includes travel as necessary within the Middle East region :
As part of the MARSS in-house staff development program, the successful candidate will build upon the existing general IT knowledge by being taught how to configure and troubleshoot military-grade cameras, radars, sonars, and radio-frequency sensors.
Notably, this role is about as far as you can get from administering a generic office work-based IT environment, consisting mainly of distributed and networked Windows OS Desktops, shared file systems, printing/scanning, and as such, candidates that only have experience in administering standard office-based setups are unlikely to be successful.
Requirements
We value intelligence and attitude over knowledge of specific technologies. However, for this role, we are notably looking for a professional profile (at least three years of active, hands-on experience); we would expect the candidate's background to be aligned with the primary qualifications below.
A MARSS Software Support Engineer must have a solid technical background (in particular Linux, Servers, and Networking) both in terms of education and experience; as well as be an excellent communicator as the role holder will be expected to interface directly with the final users and customer representatives of differing skills, competency and IT comprehension levels.
The successful candidate is required to demonstrate a level of knowledge, competency, and capability in the following IT support areas:
Strong technical background to be able to provide support and troubleshooting for software and hardware-related queries:
-Linux Server
-Networking
-Virtualization Platforms (VMWare ESXi, ProxMox)
Bonus Points for… the rest of our tech stack!
Education
You will be educated to at least Bachelor's degree level in a science or engineering discipline. Master or doctorate advantageous.
However, it is also possible that the successful candidate may have followed an unconventional approach to developing an all-around. It supports knowledge and capability from a combination of necessity, structured learning, and independent research curiosity.
MARSS candidate selection is not focussed solely on what certifications you have achieved to date but more on what you can demonstrate that you can achieve in the future.
The Work Environment
Integration and interfacing
Our core activity is maritime safety and security applications. We're bringing the latest web technologies to real-world hardware, i.e., we don't just work in the cloud. We interface with diverse equipment: radar, sonar, thermal imaging, software-defined radios, and more. Our UI runs on touchscreen displays, tablets, phones, and smart glasses...
Challenges
This isn't it if you are looking for an easy job or standard office hours.
We operate in mission-critical environments. Our systems can work at sea and in high-security areas with limited data center connectivity. So, all your assumptions about cloud development techniques and operating environments will be constantly challenged. Timelines are strict, and creativity is encouraged and often required to solve unexpected technical issues.
It can be highly diverse, exciting, and rewarding if you are up to the challenge.
Our work involves not only the tools for testing, configuring, and deploying our solutions but also building those solutions - thus, user interfaces and back-end server processing. Extraordinarily few support staff are gifted with the ability to excel equally in all areas, and we don't expect that; however, good support staff will have an appreciation of holistic development through a life support environment and a good foundation of knowledge, experience, and competency which they can continue to build upon with a chance to focus and specialize on the aspects you like the most!
