DO you agree with me that due to the economical recession affected the quality field badly as significant portion of the companies started treating quality as overhead and something nice to have but not essential?
Quality management, by all means, is an essential part of any company's business that guarantee success. Companies who treat quality management as a side issue or a second class function are losers on both the short and long terms.
One of the first things that external auditors look into is the type of commitment and leadership of senior management to quality management in the organization. And usually, the impression they get can make or break the whole audit.
Also if you think about the economical boom that took place in China, it was all because of improving the quality of their products (vs. the past), and their ability to produce them at competitive way, which is something that can be done through utilization of performance excellence methodologies (which are eventually quality management products)
Although this strategy; to overlook the quality is adopted by many organization especially in recession times for sustainability. But in the long run this method may cause some set back to the organization as this is the time when small concerns grow by lowering their profits and improving their quality.
Therefore the organizations must make some middle of the road type methodology to deal with recession phase.
Quality is essential no matter what product or project it is. Even in condition of recession quality standards has to be maintained but with proper marginal analysis.
