What is BPR (business process re-engineering or redesign) and what does it do?

BPR is essentially an operational improvement strategy. It involves the analysis of processes that underpin a company's resources, systems, stakeholders, and business strategy, with the aim of redesigning and restructuring the said processes to achieve cost reduction and more closely align the operations with strategy.
