The Emirates Literature Foundation is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation that supports and nurtures a love of literature in the UAE and across the region through a programme of varied cultural initiatives.
Recognising the distinctive contribution that literature makes to children’s lives, the Foundation focuses on introducing and cultivating a spirit of reading while acting as a catalyst for writing and cultural exchange. The Foundation governs the , the UAE’s premier literary festival, and as part of its initiatives, has implemented a , a programme bringing authors to engage with inmates at Dubai Prisons, , as well as year-round , and .
Established in 2013 by Royal Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the Foundation aims to foster a life-long love for all literature.
Role
The School Librarian of the Year (SLOY) Manager will coordinate the School Librarian of the Year (SLOY) Award.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in creating a wider community of librarians and staff associated with libraries.
- Ensuring that the award is more career and demographic orientated.
- Research and enhancement of ideas for librarians’ professional development.
- The project Manager will be responsible for the coordination of the award nominations, judging process and the events ceremony including:
Coordinating the nominations process, including: + Communicating with librarians and supporting them with their nominations
+ Collating and organising nomination entries
Handling queries about the award. Handling logistics for judging visits to schools, including attending and managing visits in various Emirates. Documentation and coordination of the award moderation process. Managing certificates, prizes and trophies. Managing post-ceremony logistics. Managing attendance and logistics of the awards-ceremony. Support the Education Events Coordinator with correspondence in Arabic and English. Working closely with the award project-management team.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
Fluent in both spoken and written English and Arabic with certified qualification. Librarian background. Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate honestly, openly, and consistently. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and online databases.
Other Relevant Information
As an integral part of the ELF Team, this position participates fully in the production and execution of Foundation events. This requires flexibility to be available evenings and weekends and to work additional hours during peak hours, with compensatory hours in lieu of time worked provided. Unless otherwise stated, all staff are subject to a six-month probationary period and annual performance review. The position is based in the Emirates Literature Foundation office, located in Al Shindagha, Dubai. Flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
