About Sky News Arabia

Based in Abu Dhabi, Sky News Arabia will deliver Arabic language news on a free-to-air news channel, a video-rich website and across mobile devices including the iPhone and iPad. The channel will launch in the second quarter of 2012 with other elements, including the website, going live before then. The company operates under the Sky News brand, which has gained a reputation for independent, impartial and innovative coverage since its launch in 1989 when it was Europe’s first 24-hour news channel. Sky News now broadcasts in English to viewers in over 90 million homes in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Sky News Arabia will provide comprehensive coverage of the regional and international news agenda and content will be created and delivered by more than 180 multimedia journalists, supported by a full technical and operations team, broadcasting to over 50 million households in both HD and SD formats. Sky News Arabia’s studios will be based in the twofour54 complex adjacent to the Abu Dhabi National Theatre & Cultural Centre. twofour54 is a free trade zone created to establish Abu Dhabi as a media centre of excellence. The channel will also operate a network of newsgathering bureaux across the MENA region, as well as offices in London and Washington DC. Sky News Arabia will also have access to Sky News’ wider network of international bureaux and newsgathering resources. The company is committed to engaging staff from the UAE and across the MENA region, working with the community to develop and employ local talent. Training programmes will be developed to support the 300-strong staff who will work for the channel.
