DuPont in Dalton, Georgia has an exciting opportunity for a Material Handler / Shift Relief Technician for the STYROFOAM® plant.


Material Handler Responsibilities:


  • Meet behavior expectations in the areas of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), quality, productivity, and teamwork and actively participate in continuous improvement efforts


  • Label and move finished product units from the end of the process to the storage lot


  • Fill out unit count sheets and enter data into OREM


  • Operate the off-stacker during plant upsets and/or change-overs


  • Ensure all raw materials are kept fully stocked in the raw material warehouse


  • Support any plant upsets with direction from the Shift Activity Coordinator. This could include cutting, lifting, and/or moving foam by hand.


Shift Relief Technician Responsibilities:


  • Certify on the Recycle Process Technician Role. Top candidates will already have a strong working knowledge of this role.


  • Sign up for recycle shift coverage when possible with your work schedule


  • Interface with process control computers to optimize and troubleshoot equipment operations for the recycle system


  • Safely perform manual operations such as cutting foam during start-ups/jam-ups, manually stacking and grinding foam, and filling solids additive feeders


  • Perform on-shift minor maintenance, predictive/preventive maintenance (PPM), breakdown repair, and scheduled shutdown/turnaround activities


  • Follow operating discipline, procedures and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties


  • Clear and tag equipment as required. Issue Safe Work Permits for maintenance work.


Required Qualifications:


  • A minimum of a High school diploma or GED is required; 2-year Technical/Trade Degree in Process Technology, Mechanical or electrical field is strongly preferred


  • A minimum of 2 years professional work experience demonstrating adept process operations, mechanical or electrical aptitude is strongly preferred


  • Fork truck certification


  • Must be capable of performing simple math computations involving ratios and fractions with or without a calculator


  • Must be mechanically inclined


  • Must possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and be capable of working in an empowered team environment


  • Must be able to work a rotating 12 hour schedule. Overtime is required (including weekends and holidays) to cover vacancies due to illness, vacation of other team members, and scheduled meetings.


  • Must have a current, valid, US driver’s license


Physical Qualifications:


  • Candidates must be willing and able to work in environments that include: working in tight or closed-in spaces, climbing stairs/ladders, working at heights, standing or walking for extended periods of time, frequent bending, reaching, and lifting, working outdoors in conditions that may dirty clothing or include inclement weather


  • Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment, such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, hard-hat, steel-toed shoes, and long sleeve FRC (safety equipment will be provided by DuPont)


  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and possess full dexterity of the wrists, hands, shoulders, and arms. Must be able to use hand tools and operate valves and similar equipment routinely.
