Context

As part of the development of innovative traction systems using energy storage systems, the Alstom Bangalore site is strengthening its ESS department. We work across disciplines to transform improved hardware and software elements into a single, integrated design.

The Role

For development of Traction and Auxiliary energy storage systems, he/she utilises skills to manage the RAMS activities and related deliverables in accordance with QCD commitments on the assigned project(s)/ program(s). Supports the Alstom products performance by defining safety and reliability requirements of traction and auxiliary battery systems allowing to reach an acceptable level of risks as per the Alstom Safety policy and enhance their capability to meet the expected reliability targets. Coordinate with different RAMS contributors working on the Program/ Project for the relevant scope (Train or Powertrain/Traction or Bogie) and apply the applicable Alstom/ Engineering RAMS processes & instructions. He/She is responsible for the documentation of solutions, the follow-up of their application in the project and the growth of reliability.

Main Responsibilities

Responsibilities include :-

• Plan and pilot the RAMS activities in tender phase to assess the capability and foreseen risks of Alstom product to meet customer requirements and to evaluate the budget needed during project exécution.
• Plan and pilot the RAMS activities and deliverables on the assigned project(s)/program(s) as per applicable instructions/processes and other specific requirements committed to the Customer.
• Perform the project/program RAMS activities compliant with the QCD work packages commitments.
• Ensure adequacy of RAMS deliverables, fosters their acceptance by Customer within the limit of Alstom commitments and for Safety ones by the Independent parties (ISA, NoBo, Debo,…).
• Assess and demonstrate level of Safety achieved by Alstom product in project/program phases to ensure its adequacy as per the applicable Alstom Safety policy and instructions.
• Continuously assess the capability of the Alstom product to meet Reliability performance in project/program phases and define necessary reliability actions to minimize Alstom risks and follow them until closure (Reliability Related Item List).
• Define and transfer in a timely manner the necessary safety requirements to put under control the relevant railway safety risks and follow them until closure (Safety Related Item List/Hazard Log).
• Support other stakeholders (design, industrial, sourcing, validation etc..) in the definition of appropriate measures to meet safety and reliability actions and to follow their closure through appropriate documented evidence.
• Be the point of contact for RAMS matters on the project/program for the corresponding scope (Train / Powertrain/ Traction / Bogie) in particular to the
• Customer (internal or external).
• Consolidate the RAMS contribution from the Coparts and external suppliers.
• Perform safety and reliability design reviews as per the project/program schedule.
• Support the PrQSM in the issuance of Safety Authorizations by providing the necessary inputs.
• Take the role of Safety Leader (K1 8D) for which he/she is appointed to, in order to support the team in the assessment, containment, closure and RoE of the issue as per RSA-WMS-002.
• Manage the RAMS resources to meet the QCD work package commitment.
• Coordinate the RAMS contributors from different entities (Copart/Supplier representatives).
• Manage the interface with the independent parties (ISA, NoBo, Debo) on the project/program on ensure all open points are allocated and addressed.
• Apply the Alstom /Engineering rules & processes on the program(s)/project(s) in particular those dedicated to the RAMS activities.
• Report on the progress of the tender/project/program RAMS activities and alert the PrEM/BTM and N+1 in case of issue potentially impacting the achievement of the QCD commitments.
• Anticipate and alert on the potential blocking issues with regard to the expectations of the next Reliability and Safety design review milestone and be pro-active in the definition/implementation of the related resolution plan.
• Have a pro-active approach on the design to support in the definition adequate of technical solutions to put under control the railway safety risks.
• Have a pro-active challenging view on the overall RAM results from the contributors to enhance the adequacy/consistency of the RAM studies and requirements.
• Seek for the technical understanding of the Alstom products in order to better assess their RAMS performance and potential areas of improvement.
• Adopt a product-oriented mind-set in implementing the RAMS process to foster the capitalisation of the results of the activities towards the- product RAMS performance.
• Support the maintenance of the technical repository of the Alstom products from a RAMS perspective
• Participate to the improvement/definition of the RAMS process.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience

• BTech/ MTech degree in electrical/ electronic / automotive or chemistry applied to railway products preferably battery systems.
• Minimum 5 years in the design of energy management systems incorporating Li-ion batteries.
• Railway Safety analysis and demonstration methods, RAM prediction and measurement methods, and tools with 2 to 3 years of experience.
• Knowledge of industrial development cycles (V-cycle, quality reviews, ...)
• Understanding of the needs of customers, strength of proposal, responsiveness, autonomy, teamwork and ability to convince will all be qualities necessary for success on the job.
• Time management and reporting skill. Structured and organised with Hands-on approach.
• Sense of urgency / priority. Customer & Product Focus.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) required for internal and external communications.
