Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled Financial Systems Governance Specialist (Business Process Specialist) within CAT Information Technology. The Financial Systems Governance Specialist partners with stakeholders across Caterpillar to optimize financial processes, develop and maintain best in class systems and tools, and enhance governance and controls to support various accounting and finance cycles. This position – part of the Corporate Services within Caterpillar IT, is an integral part of governing, developing, and implementing accounting and finance solutions worldwide with focus on APAC region. This individual will work independently, as well as within a large team environment (matrix-oriented structure), to deliver world-class process and technology solutions in support of the business needs.


The position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing governance over Caterpillar’s financial systems with focus on the Caterpillar’s CBS SAP system. This role will also be responsible for the elements of the design of various financial processes.


 The preference for this role is to be based out of Whitefield Office, Bangalore, India


What you will do


Job Roles and Responsibilities


  • This position – part of the Corporate Services within Caterpillar IT, is an integral part of governing, developing, and implementing accounting and finance solutions worldwide with focus on APAC region. This individual will work independently, as well as within a large team environment (matrix-oriented structure), to deliver world-class process and technology solutions in support of the business needs.
  • The position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing governance over Caterpillar’s financial systems with focus on the Caterpillar’s CBS SAP system. This role will also be responsible for the elements of the design of various financial processes.
  • Developing methodology and providing education to accounting and non-accounting staffs and cross-functional teams.
  • Actively participate in blueprinting, review, and approval of the design elements for existing and future financial systems.
  • Assist extended team with projects and change requests intake.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert that will provide direction during process and system design activities and assist in resolving business process issues arising from financial systems implementations.
  • Work with business partners to standardize, simplify, and optimize total cost of ownership.
  • Liaison between technology and process teams and the Accounting and Finance Process Owners, representing the Process Owners during financial systems design/re-design activities.
  • Definition of internal control requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation or other statutory / local requirements.
  • Guide and/or validate process documentation as part of the ERP’s template(s) solutions.
  • Work on a matrix-oriented organization, and lead small cross functional teams.
  • Assist / lead the integration of focus facilities, new acquisitions and ventures, and/or new clients into corporate practices.
  • Developing methodology and providing education to accounting and non-accounting staffs and cross-functional teams.

Candidates will have:


  • 5+ years of relevant job experience in Accounting / Finance, IT or related field
  • 4-year degree in Accounting or Business degree or Technical degree with Accounting experience or equivalent
  • Demonstrates problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Flexibility to work in a global environment
  • Must demonstrate high levels of initiative, leadership, good judgment, the ability to communicate effectively, a broad understanding of accounting business processes, process improvement
  • Understanding and practical knowledge of SAP and other financial systems.

Desired Qualifications:


SAP delivery experience


  • SAP Certification
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar business, products, suppliers and customers
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar’s CBS SAP system and other financial applications
  • Professional Certification (CPA, CMA or equivalent)

• Identifies key players, criticalities, roles, and responsibilities.
• Investigates application-related issues with both business and IT professionals.
• Recommends enhancements for a major application system or related subsystems.
• Works with core application systems for a major business unit or function.


Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
Level Expert:
• Oversees key client reviews to assure service and relationship satisfaction.
• Coaches others in the value, issues, and methods of client partnering.
• Collaborates with clients in the pursuit of common business objectives.
• Maintains status information on major developments in client or partner environment.
• Works directly with clients to discern business trends and their implications.
• Fosters a climate conducive to establishing positive working relationships with outsiders.


IT Environment: Knowledge of an organization's IT purposes and activities; ability to create an effective IT environment for business operations.
Level Extensive Experience:
• Instructs on day-to-day IT operations: business impacts, priorities and dependencies.
• Provides insights into key aspects of strategic systems and technology development plans.
• Oversees the IT systems management philosophy, administrative service functions and requirements.
• Consults on the rationale behind the use of technology infrastructure across various functions.
• Coaches others on the roles and responsibilities of the IT department.
• Evaluates the key benefits and drawbacks for an organization's existing IT structure.
