Role Responsibilities 



Lead the WRB business in India, to ensure delivery of superior performance against financial and non-financial KPIs consistent with the global WRB strategy. Oversee and develop the WRB team to ensure that the team can deliver current and long-term strategic objectives.


Strategy


  • Formulate and execute strategies for WRB, consistent with the agreed global CPBB strategy
  • Deliver sustained profitability through overseeing the implementation of target participation models to ensure effective delivery ofWRB’s Segment, Product and Distribution strategy
  • Develop the country WRB plan that supports operational resilience and the delivery of strategies, including people, premises, technology, and behaviors. Ensure that the plan is aligned with the short, medium and long term aspirations
  • Develop clear and achievable plans for delivery of future growth in the country
  • Participate in strategic and corporate development discussions involving the WRB business in the country
  • Review the client plan for teh country; ensure that each client plan adequately reflects all segment activity connected to the country and that all planned activity is undertaken in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

Business


  • Create a plan for WRB to deliver its budget for India, consistent with  global frameworks
  • Establish and address an agenda of top issues and opportunities to improve WRB performance and deliver the budget
  • Identify and remove blockages and ensure the team operates across segments/product/distribution and effectively with other parts of the Group
  • Lead a culture of good Conduct committed to fair outcomes for clients, investors, our reputation and the markets in which the Group operates
  • Set, modify and approve the pricing of products and services and related waivers/reversal of fees, charges and/or out of pocket expenses incurred by the Bank and levied to clients and provide appropriate delegations in accordance with the P&L objectives of the business

Processes


  • Oversee processes and control standards within the WRB universe, and continuously seek to improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes.
  • Monitor the implementation of policies and control standards set by risk control owners and/or Group policy owners, ensuring the business is in compliance and operating within risk tolerance and risk appetite
  • Liaison across functions (TTO, Risk) to provide direction and ensure seamless execution.

People & Talent


  • Ensure that organization structure and people programs are appropriate for the delivery of plans and targets
  • Develop WRB leaders in India to build capability and ensure delivery of the business’ short and longer-term objectives; provide oversight on development on WRB leaders
  • Coach direct reports and key talents to deliver on their potential
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations of the team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners
  • Drive and embed a strong performance culture through an inspiring, motivating and continuous feedback
  • Ensure provision of ongoing training and people development, and that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles with effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles
  • Oversee team structure and capacity plans
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports, and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives

Risk Management


  • Provide oversight to ensure that systems and controls are in compliance with Group and Business policies, procedures, standards and codes, including those governing all Risk types, Compliance, Technology and Operations, Finance and Reputation
  • Highlight weaknesses across the end-to-end WRB India risk and control environment and drive rectification as required
  • Monitor credit risk and work with the Risk team to deliver strong collections
  • Develop and implement clear structures of accountability to ensure:
  • Team members can perform successfully in their roles
  • There is clear oversight / supervision / decision making e.g., committees, forums
  • Ensure effective implementation of Risk Management framework such that:
  • An appropriate risk appetite is clear and integral to the way all employees operate, implementing appropriate controls consistent with global strategy
  • Effective processes are established and maintained to identify, manage, monitor and report risk

Governance


  • Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
  • Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; challenging fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner.

Regulatory & Business Conduct


  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.
  • Ensure that all material risks are monitored, managed and escalated where necessary

  • Embed Here for good and Group’s brand and values in the WRB India business
  • Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures

Our Ideal Candidate


  • Education - MBA or Equivalent
  • Training - Group Mandatory E-Learnings
  • Languages - English
  • Experience:
    • At least 20 years of experience in banking/financial services with at least 5 years in a senior management position
    • Proven experience in managing a business with full profit and loss responsibilities
