Your role and responsibilities

IBM India System Development Lab (ISDL) is seeking an experienced Developer to join our Power Hypervisor Development Group.ISDL works on end-to-end design and development across Power, Z and Storage portfolios.




As a Firmware Developer for Cognitive Systems, you will design, develop, test, and deliver systems firmware for Cognitive Systems. You will work collaboratively with various teams, including OS, Hypervisor, and Designers, to create and implement firmware components.



You'll beworkingas a part of hypervisor tooling development, providing critical hypervisor enablement tools.



Key Responsibilities



Core Development



  • Design, implement, integrate, and verify advanced hypervisor tooling features
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Create comprehensive unit tests to ensure code quality
  • Drive continuous improvement in code quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Contribute to technical documentation and best practices

Collaboration



  • Provide expert-level code support and debugging assistance to internal customers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for defect triage and resolution, root cause complex software issues across the hypervisor debugger code stack.
  • Participate in technical design reviews



Required education
Bachelor's Degree

Technical Expertise



  • Proficiency in C/C++ with deep understanding of OOP concepts and design patterns
  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience with Perl/Python for automation and tooling development
  • Proven experience in Unix/Linux system programming, including process management, IPC, shared libraries, socket programming
  • Proficient with debugging tools such as gdb, valgrind, strace, and core dump analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to debug and resolve complex, multi-layered software issues

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take ownership
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in fast-paced settings


Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Experience with Modern C++ ,Java, Node.js
  • DevOps & CI/CD:
    • Hands-on experience with Jenkins, Git/GitHub, Gerrit, or equivalent tools
    • Understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipeline design
    • Experience with containerization (podman/Docker)
  • Emerging Technologies:
    • Experience with coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, etc.)
    • Knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers
  • Agile/Scrum methodology experience
