Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Developer to join our Bangalore-based engineering team to support the development, enhancement, and modernization of critical enterprise applications. This role is suited for a professional who can take ownership of end-to-end delivery, lead projects, and contribute to architectural and design decisions. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in mainframe technologies, the ability to mentor team members, and actively engage with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable and efficient solutions. A curious mindset, problem-solving attitude, and willingness to continuously learn are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of applications using COBOL, CICS, VSAM, IDMS, and SORT utilities
• Own and drive end-to-end delivery of projects and enhancements, ensuring quality and timeliness
• Provide technical design solutions aligned with business requirements and system architecture
• Collaborate with senior team members and business stakeholders to understand requirements and propose effective solutions
• Mentor and guide junior developers, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex production issues, ensuring minimal business impact
• Contribute to API and integration initiatives as part of modernization efforts
• Participate in and support release planning, deployment, and post-production validation
• Participate in an on-call support rotation, including occasional weekends or off-hours
• Ensure adherence to development standards, documentation, and compliance requirements
• Collaborate effectively with global teams, including onshore and cross-functional partners

Required Qualifications

• 5–8 years of experience in mainframe application development
• Strong hands-on expertise in:
  • COBOL
  • CICS
  • VSAM
  • IDMS
  • SORT utilities
• Strong understanding of batch and online processing systems
• Proven experience in technical design, solutioning, and system analysis
• Experience leading development efforts or owning modules/projects end-to-end
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Effective communication skills with the ability to interact with business stakeholders and global teams
• Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and foster collaboration
• Flexible, adaptable, and proactive mindset with a strong ownership attitude

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to RPG
• Experience with Lotus Notes application development
• Understanding of API development, integration, or modernization strategies
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Strong experience in production support and incident management
