Position Description: Accountable for building and executing Policy Advocacy and Professional Relations strategy in alignment with commercial, market access and medical teams.


Key Objectives/Deliverables:


  • Build environmental shaping and innovation readiness strategy for key therapy areas relevant to the organization e.g. Diabetes, Obesity, Cancer.
  • Stakeholder mapping of professional associations and key influencers to drive environmental shaping and innovation readiness efforts including Patient Advocacy Groups, NGOs, International bodies etc. in relevant therapy areas.
  • Drive policy advocacy with relevant State/Central Government departments/ministries in collaboration with PAGs/NGOs etc. having mutual interest in the area. Increased focus of the role will be towards driving policy advocacy with State Governments.
  • Drive environment shaping efforts to positively influence (in patients benefit) public policies around disease awareness, diagnosis, treatment protocols for therapy areas relevant to Lilly e.g. Diabetes, Obesity, Cancer etc.
  • Represent Lilly, along with company's Government Affairs leader, at important industry forums such as FICCI, OPPI, AMCHAM to help advance the organization's business interests.
  • Research and monitor state government policy decisions that impact the industry and the company.
  • Work closely with Government Affairs in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with relevant competent authorities especially in MOHFW, Department of Pharmaceuticals, CDSCO etc.
  • Provide timely updates on key policy and political developments in external environment (especially targeted state governments) and advise on how to address them.
  • Work closely with Regional Advocacy and Professional Relations team to align India strategy with overall company strategy.

Basic Requirements:


  • At least 5+ years’ prior experience in healthcare and public policy roles.
  • Very good written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Flair for public affairs/advocacy and proven commercial mindset which shapes the external environment to ethically drive business strategy and growth.
  • Deep understanding of the political system and healthcare/pharmaceuticals policy development process of the Government across the Central and State levels.
  • Proven ability to master complex regulatory and policy issues, and to translate them into clear and concise messaging of direct relevance to the business (commercial, R&D, Regulatory etc.).
  • Experience working in a global organization or within a matrixed structure.
  • A real team player with the ability to interact and collaborate well with people from all business teams and oversee projects from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage issues and crises and stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to manage, motivate and coach a team of professionals without a direct reporting relationship.
  • Effective project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and make appropriate trade off decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills combined with critical and creative thinking.

Additional Preferences:


  • Any professional degree or certifications in Public Policy from reputed institutions.
  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical/ healthcare industry.Proficiency with IT tools (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
