Amazon's People eXperience and Technology (PXT) organization is redefining how over a million employees interact with HR systems, policies, and processes through conversational AI. As a Software Development Manager on the Aza team, you will own the vision, technical design, build, and operations for our generative AI assistant at a moment when the underlying technology is advancing faster than at any point in our industry's history.
Aza serves hundreds of thousands of Amazonians daily across dozens of HR-domain integrations, including compensation, benefits, time-off, hiring, and organizational management. We're expanding: bringing more PXT experiences into conversational workflows, building platform capabilities (skills, memory, personalization) that make the assistant smarter with every interaction, and driving the operational fundamentals (accuracy, latency, quality) that earn employee trust at scale. You will design, build, and ship production AI systems.
To fuel this mission, we are growing our Engineering team in Hyderabad (HYD13).
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for mentoring and coaching a team of software developers to create world-class systems that support Amazon's global footprint. You must be willing to insist on the highest standards for quality, maintainability, and performance. You will ensure that engineering best practices are followed and that software is designed to be highly available, dynamically scalable, and resilient to continuity threats.
You will drive architectural and design choices and invent new features keeping pace with the advancements in the GenAI technology landscape. We have a team culture that encourages innovation and we expect developers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture, and project delivery. Successful candidates will be leaders who can simplify, deliver results, and build great teams around themselves.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and nurture a team of software developers
- Shape team goals by developing a deep understanding of our customer's business processes and success criteria
- Develop and execute a long-term architecture while balancing short term commitments
- Work closely with the team to architect and develop the best technical design and approach to solve complex problems
- Effectively partner with engineering and non-engineering groups across the organization to deliver on own goals
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
