Your role and responsibilities

Applications Engineering at Confluent powers the company's central nervous system, driving a strategic, data-centric approach that translates business insights into impactful actions. We seek a talented Software Engineer with strong expertise in back-end development to contribute to innovative, robust, enterprise-grade applications. This role is suited for candidates who combine solid technical depth, an instinct for problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse technical and business teams. You'll contribute to high-impact projects, implementing creative solutions while upholding Confluent's commitment to quality and industry best practices.

• Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs to deliver maintainable, high-performance solutions.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and Frontend Engineers to deliver mission-critical features and seamless user experiences.
• Transform complex business requirements into elegant, reliable code using backend technologies such as GoLang, Java, or Python.
• Support application security, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and aligning with Confluent's values.
• Optimize backend services for speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with and support fellow engineers, contributing to a culture of growth, collaboration, and technical excellence throughout the team.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Bachelor's or master's in computer science, Information Systems, or related technical field.
• Minimum 3-4 years of professional experience developing, deploying, and maintaining production-grade backend solutions.
• Good hands-on experience with backend technologies such as GoLang, Java, or Python.
• Strong knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Experience leveraging cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable deployment.
• Familiar with Agile development methodologies and comfortable using project management and collaboration tools.
• Able to deliver features and projects independently and collaboratively within dynamic, cross-functional environments.
