Job description

Sr. Engineer – Welding Engineering is responsible for executing welding engineering planning and execution activities. He is expected to oversee the welding engineering aspects of welding operations, ensuring that welding processes, procedures, and technologies meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.


This role brings a technical authority and supports the Lead – Welding Engineering in driving innovation, compliance, and continuous improvement in welding practices, welder & welding procedure qualifications as per ASME, IBR, PED, and other standards to support weld quality assurance across the organization.


Key Responsibilities


Conduct, review, and maintain welding engineering planning and execution activities for smoother production execution.


-Develop / qualify WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) as per ASME / PED / EN / IBR for different materials like CS, LAS, HAS, SS.


-Identify welder qualification requirements and qualify welders as per ASME / IBR / EN / TEMA / API codes.


-Qualify welding procedures and prepare/review Shop / Site / Field weld plans for manufacturing drawings.


-Maintain logs of daily activities and generate weld-quality performance reports.


Skills & Requirements


Welding techniques and process expertise (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW).


-Relevant experience in welding engineering.


-Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.


-Strong understanding and interpretation of ASME codes.


-Well-versed with ASME/IBR and other codes for welding procedures and welder qualification.


-Analytical and optimized weld estimation skills.


-MS Office and general computer proficiency.


-Interpretation of standard weld symbols and fabrication drawings.


-WPS & PQR documentation preparation and compliance management.


-Weld quality inspection, NDT methods, and defect analysis.


-Root cause analysis and welding troubleshooting.


-Familiar with ASME Sec IX, Sec I, Sec IIC, Sec VIII, and IBR 1950.


-Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management.


-Problem-solving and decision-making skills.


-Digital literacy (welding monitoring tools).


-Team collaboration and coordination.


-Accountability and integrity in execution.


-Adaptability in resolving welding-related issues.
