Job description

Job Title: Technical Lead / Full Stack Software EngineerReports to: Managing DirectorLocation: Monaco or Remotely

Type: Full time or Consultant

Help us make a difference …

In 2005, MARSS began life as a simple concept for an autonomous vessel docking system. Since then the company has expanded rapidly, evolving into a highly successful and diverse global tech solution provider protecting millions of lives, critical infrastructure, military and civil assets throughout the world.

In 2026 MARSS is starting a new phase, following the sale of the Defense Business to a major international Defence Industry player. As a consequence, MARSS will focus on safety and security solutions for the Maritime Industry (non Defense), counting on  a small, agile, talented and committed team, which we seek to expand  to execute our ambitious growth plan.

We strive to create an environment and culture that encourages creativity, continuous learning, and individual responsibility to solve problems, add value and achieve professional growth.

With over 16 years of successful operations and a solid order book to secure the future, MARSSians benefit from a unique working environment which combines the flexibility and entrepreneurial spirit found in smaller start-ups with the support, security and professional growth opportunities of a well established and worldwide recognized expanding global organisation.

The Position

We are looking for an experienced  full stack software engineer willing to take the challenge to support MARSS in this new phase and passionate about being able to develop  products  end-to-end.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the existing code base and will lead the product development by:

  • contributing to strategic and technical decisions;
  • making architectural and tooling choices;
  • building and expanding the software team from scratch.

We offer a great opportunity for professional growth, as the position would naturally evolve to a Tech Lead / CTO role.

We value intelligence and attitude over knowledge of specific technologies. But, as we are looking for someone bringing 3+ years of experience, we would expect your background to be aligned with the main qualifications below.

Essential Qualifications

  • Python 2 and 3
  • Asynchronous programming (asyncio)
  • Frontend (JavaScript, React)
  • Sockets/Networking
  • GIT
  • Comfortable in Linux environments

Additional Qualifications

  • C/C++
  • unit testing tools
  • network and message based interfaces based for instance on Sockets, Websockets and REST APIs
  • Serial Interfaces
  • Video Processing (GStreamer / Janus / WebRTC)
  • Frontend (HTML5/JS)
  • System Security, Cryptography
  • Machine Learning
  • DevOps tools such as Ansible, Packer
  • Bring your own technologies!
  • Personal projects and passions

Education

We prefer at least bachelors degree level in a science or engineering discipline. Masters or doctorate advantageous.

Integration and interfacing

Our core activity is maritime safety and security applications. We're bringing the latest web technologies to real-world hardware i.e. we don't just work in the cloud. We interface with very diverse equipment: radar, sonar, thermal imaging, software-defined radios and more. Our UI, based on standard web-technologies, runs on touchscreen displays and tablets.

Challenges

If you are looking for an easy job, this isn't it. We operate in mission critical environments. Our systems can operate at sea and high security areas with limited connectivity to the data center. So, all your assumptions about cloud development techniques and operating environments will be constantly challenged. Timelines are strict, and creativity is often required to solve unexpected technical issues. It can be extremely diverse, interesting and rewarding if you are up to the challenge.

The Work Environment

  • Development on Macs and Ubuntu: We're pragmatic so realize we also have to work with Windows occasionally.
  • Small team: Embracing modern development practices. New ideas are always encouraged and we'll try most things, but we always settle on what works for us.
  • Diverse team (in a good way): Our team is very multicultural including old experienced engineers balanced with the brightest young graduates.
  • Passionate: We are passionate and enjoy what we do!
  • Diverse workplace: opportunity to travel and work on some of the most iconic Cruise Vessels and Mega Yachts
