Seismic is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer II to join our Learning Engineering team, responsible for building and scaling products that deliver personalised learning, coaching, and enablement experiences for customers worldwide.


In this role, you will help design, build, and modernise cloud-native applications that power Seismic's learning platform. You will work on complex technical challenges involving system design, software architecture, distributed systems, AI-powered capabilities, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps practices. While experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails is valuable, we are primarily looking for exceptional engineers with strong architectural thinking, cloud expertise, and the ability to quickly learn and contribute across technology stacks.



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale SaaS or cloud-native applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, or equivalent experience in modern backend technologies such as C#, Java, Go, or Python with the ability to quickly ramp up in a Ruby ecosystem.
  • Experience building and maintaining applications using Ruby on Rails, including APIs, background processing, application performance optimisation, and scalable service development.
  • Deep expertise in System Design and Software Architecture, including microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and API design.
  • Proven experience designing highly scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containerisation, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and applying AI-driven approaches to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Strong expertise in SQL and NoSQL databases, data modelling, and application performance optimisation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working effectively in globally distributed engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on experience with the Ruby ecosystem, including Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, RSpec, Redis, PostgreSQL, and modern API development practices.
  • Experience migrating monolithic applications to microservices architectures.
  • Experience building AI-enabled products or integrating AI capabilities into existing platforms.
  • Experience building and operating enterprise SaaS platforms at scale.
  • Exposure to modern frontend frameworks such as React or Vue.js.

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient, and high-performance applications and services powering Seismic's Learning platform.
  • Lead the design and implementation of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Modernise large-scale monolithic applications into scalable and well-orchestrated microservices.
  • Build innovative product capabilities, including AI-powered features and intelligent automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, designers, and engineers to deliver impactful customer-facing solutions.
  • Drive technical design discussions and contribute to key architectural decisions across the platform.
  • Implement and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, observability, and operational excellence practices.
  • Leverage Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies to improve platform scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across distributed environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentoring, technical documentation, and engineering best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and AI-assisted development tools to improve software quality and developer productivity.
