Job Description

Applications are invited for the position of Associate Principal, Academic at the Leading National Academy (LNA) powered by Niagara College KSA in Al Khobar. Reporting to the Campus Principal, the Associate Principal, Academic is responsible for overseeing the creation and execution of all Career Services/OJT, curriculum development of Academic Year and Job Skills Year Programs, and quality assurance whilst providing strategic leadership in a positive, energetic, and dynamic manner.

The role of Associate Principal, Academic is designed to support the Campus Principal and provide leadership on all matters related to learning, teaching, and the student experience from the classroom through to their career.

The Associate Principal, Academic must feel they have sufficient authority to complete their responsibilities with the support of the Campus Principal. It is recognized that existing structures within Faculty and Academic Units mean it is essential that this individual's scope and identity are flexible.

The incumbent is expected to be flexible in terms of work hours and maintain confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact regarding internal and external relations.

The following principles underpin the Associate Principal, Academic role:

· Work to support and advise the Campus Principal on all matters regarding teaching, learning, and the student experience to develop and maintain the Academy’s reputation for excellence.

· Play a lead role in overseeing the quality of the academic unit’s programs and career services functions.

· Actively promote the development and implementation of innovation in teaching, learning and student experience.

· Contribute to the broader leadership within the faculty and staff.

· These principles shall be affected through the following duties and responsibilities, but it is recognized that there may be occasions in an Academic Unit where elements of the below role description may not be applicable.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leadership and Strategic Direction


· Lead the strategic goals of the Academy through sound planning and execution of all programs offered.

· Provide leadership to the heads of departments and academic teams in each department with the development of academic programs in accordance with the mission and goals of the Academy.

· Execute and lead the development of new and existing programs and related courses within the Academic Year Program and Job Skills Year Program.

· Lead the strategic development of learning and teaching within the academic unit, taking account of developments within the discipline(s), changes in the market, Professional, Statutory, and Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements, and best practices in learning and teaching.

· Maintain and develop program portfolio: a new program, an adaptation of existing programs, and withdrawal of others.

· Maintain faculty currency to assist them in keeping up with relevant developments in the discipline, profession, employment sectors, learning, and teaching that impact programs and delivery.

· Monitor and evaluate the academic department's teaching activities concerning comparable academic departments within and outside the Academy using internal and external data.

· Identify and advocate the introduction of appropriate new teaching methods such as e-learning and new modes of delivery such as part-time or distance learning, where permitted.

· Take a strategic overview of the development of faculty in the academic department, supporting their development of new programs and the withdrawal of others where desirable.

· Remain connected and current with the industry through various formal and informal channels.

· Oversee the quality assurance process with external partner agencies as part of the audit process.

· Liaise regularly with the Colleges of Excellence (CoE) via the CoE representative to the Academy.

· Lead the development and monitoring of departmental budgets and act as the senior departmental budget holder to ensure prudent and responsible spending.

· Assist in the development of recruitment, admissions, and retention processes and systems to provide critical key performance indicators in regard to enrolment and retention targets being met.

· Oversee student progress, learning supports, and remedial teaching opportunities.

· Review the development and implementation of the ‘On-the-Job-Training’ strategy and assist with coordinating employers/sponsors for the Academic Year Program and Job Skills Year programs.

· Oversee the development and operations of the Learning and Career Services Department.

· Work with the Business Development Department to support their operations academically, as required.

· Promote Niagara College and Niagara College KSA’s values.

General Academic Management

· Be an active member of the Academy’s academic management/executive team, ensuring that the academic team implements the Academy’s strategic plan, complies with the directives from the funders, and keeps up-to-date with policies and procedures.

· Represent the academic department on the relevant faculty and staff/trainee experience committee(s) and play a role in developing faculty.

· Gather and represent the views on learning and teaching of faculty at an institutional level.

· Gather and represent the changes and feedback from industry and employers at a program level.

· Obtain feedback and disseminate information from faculty and institutional bodies to raise awareness of and implement institutional and faculty expectations.

· Contribute to the development of the Academy’s strategy and policy.

· Represent the academic department at the executive committee and other related committees where it is possible to share best practices from across NC KSA.

· Ensure programs are being managed in accordance with stakeholders’ expectations, including regular ongoing reviews using a defined evidence base.

· Maintain an overview of the effectiveness with which students’ views are heard and engaged in the academic department.

· Monitor student progress, learning support, and remedial learning opportunities.

· Maintain high levels of academic integrity and quality assurance.

· Lead the development and maintenance of the Academic Year Program and the Job Skills Year Program studies curriculum to ensure that all levels of curriculum learning goals are met.

Staff Management


· Liaise with students, faculty, and administration with responsibility for learning and teaching matters, e.g., the Quality and Systems Department, and relevant administrative colleagues within NC KSA.

· Ensure effective communication between departments in the Academy.

· Facilitate dialogue between teaching colleagues to share effective teaching practices to raise awareness of academic integrity, best practices, and lessons learned.

· Support the heads of departments in their workload allocation duties with respect to teaching duties.

· Provide information and advice with respect to duties required to support teaching and learning in the Academic Department.

· Play a role in the induction of new members of staff and support the development of existing staff.

· Ensure new staff know what is expected of them in teaching and are connected with appropriate development opportunities, such as mentors or online training modules.

· Assist with faculty recruitment, hiring, training, and ongoing professional development.

· Build a strong team of faculty that leads the team toward achieving the Academy’s academic goals and mission.

· Assist with the development and management of the faculty performance review process and professional development offerings.
