Job Description
The Fire Alarm Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and functionality of fire alarm systems within a facility. This position involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. The Fire Alarm Technician works closely with facility maintenance teams to ensure that fire alarm systems operate effectively and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Install new fire alarm systems according to blueprints, specifications, and local fire codes. This may involve wiring, mounting components, and configuring system settings.
- Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of fire alarm systems to identify and address potential issues before they escalate. Perform routine tests to ensure proper functioning of alarms, detectors, control panels, and other system components.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with fire alarm systems, including false alarms, malfunctioning components, and wiring issues. Utilize diagnostic tools and technical knowledge to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Repair: Perform repairs and replacements of faulty or damaged fire alarm system components, such as detectors, control panels, wiring, and batteries. Ensure that all repairs comply with safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and system upgrades. Generate reports detailing findings, recommendations, and actions taken to address issues.
- Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing fire alarm systems, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) codes and local building/fire codes. Ensure that fire alarm systems meet all regulatory requirements and pass inspections by authorities having jurisdiction.
- Training: Provide training and guidance to facility staff on proper operation and maintenance of fire alarm systems. Educate personnel on emergency procedures and evacuation protocols in the event of a fire alarm activation.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to fire alarm activations and emergency calls to investigate potential threats and ensure appropriate action is taken. Coordinate with emergency services and other personnel as needed to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of occupants.
