Role Purpose


The PYP Teacher Librarian serves as a vital resource in nurturing a culture of inquiry and love of learning within the school community. This role is designed to support the school’s commitment to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme by enriching students' educational experiences through access to high-quality, diverse, and culturally relevant resources. The Teacher Librarian plays a crucial role in integrating information literacy across the curriculum, fostering interdisciplinary learning, and ensuring that the library remains a dynamic hub that supports the intellectual and personal growth of all students. By collaborating closely with teachers, students, and the wider school community, the PYP Teacher Librarian contributes to the development of inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed in a global society.




KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES



Key Responsibilities



  • Curriculum Integration and Library Program Development: Develop and implement a library program that aligns with the PYP framework, incorporating innovative and culturally relevant resources that support inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Resource Management: Curate, manage, and evaluate a diverse collection of print and digital resources that cater to the PYP curriculum needs, promoting access to information that reflects a wide range of cultures and perspectives.
  • Teaching and Learning Support: Collaborate with PYP teachers to plan lessons that integrate information literacy skills, fostering a culture of critical thinking and research across the curriculum. Provide support for students in developing their inquiry skills and in navigating and utilizing library resources effectively.
  • Reading Promotion and Literacy Enhancement: Implement engaging reading programs and activities that encourage a love for reading and continuous learning, taking into account the multicultural and diverse backgrounds of the student body.
  • Professional Collaboration and Development: Actively participate in school-wide professional learning communities, contributing to the professional growth of colleagues by sharing knowledge and best practices related to librarianship, PYP curriculum integration, and information literacy.
  • Library Leadership and Advocacy: Lead the school community in valuing and leveraging the library as a central resource for learning and teaching, including advocating for the ethical use of information and fostering an understanding of intellectual property rights.


BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS



Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Expertise in the IB PYP Framework: Demonstrated understanding of and experience with the IB Primary Years Programme, including its philosophy, curriculum model, and assessment practices.
  • Information Literacy and Curriculum Integration: Strong ability to teach and integrate information literacy skills within the PYP curriculum, supporting students’ development as inquirers and thinkers.
  • Cultural Competency: Awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural context of Saudi Arabia, with the ability to integrate local and international perspectives in library resources and programming.
  • Digital Literacy: Proficiency in digital library management systems (Follett Destiny), online databases, e-learning technologies, and the integration of digital tools to enhance learning.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with students, teachers, and the wider school community.
  • Innovative and Reflective Practice: A commitment to continuous professional development, innovation in library services, and reflective practice to enhance student learning.
  • Library Management: Knowledge of and experience with library curation, print and digital resource management, and departmental budgeting.
