Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Contracts and Agreements
  • Oversees the development and review of a wide range of complex agreements, contracts and other relevant documentation.
  • Oversees the development and updating of standard terms of business and standard form precedents to ensure consistent use across the organisation.
  • Review and approve the need for external legal advisors to support with consultation.
  • Review and approve agreement draft or suggest amendments.
  • Approve or reject agreement modification request. 
  1. Legal Support and Consultations             
  • Provides legal advice to the subsidiary leadership on legal implications of new and critical projects as well as partnerships in order to protect the platform’s interests and minimise its liabilities.
  • Oversees the provision of legal counsel to all the subsidiary departments in order to safeguard the subsidiary’s interest, ensure compliance with all applicable local and / or global laws, rules and regulations, and minimise liability and risk exposure.
  • Works collaboratively with other organizations and networks where appropriate, both locally and nationally.
  • Supporting other departments with certain legal (e.g. terminations or corrective actions)
  • Conducts legal research, analysis and benchmarking for legal issues, including risk management practices, in order to ensure the establishment of legal processes in accordance with the best fitted global practices and world class standard.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for legal support and consultations. 
  • Review and approve the need for external legal advisors to support with consultation.
  • Coordinates with external legal firms to provide service when needed.
  • Review and approve legal opinion recommendations.
  1. Investigations and Claims           
  • Investigates major and complex matters of the subsidiary and departments.
  • Conducts complex claims for the subsidiary.
  • Ensures to keep management informed of legislation, trends and other issues that might affect the subsidiary’s effectiveness, responsibility to stakeholders and vulnerability to risk and legal issues.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures for investigations and claims management. 
  1. Legal Disputes
  • Review and approve negotiation strategy or suggest amendments.
  • Manages the resolution of all litigations or court proceedings where necessary in order to defend the subsidiary against any claim or legal action taken against it.
  • Manages the negotiation and settlement processes on behalf of the subsidiary, in order to avoid litigation, reach consensus and/ or achieve settlement in order to ensure that all legal issues are resolved in a timely manner, to the advantage of the platform and with minimal impact on the company’s reputation and brand equity.
  1. Compliance and Regulations      
  • Oversees the implementation of an effective and robust governance framework, appropriate to the size and character of the subsidiary , in order to promote high standards of accountability and integrity, which supports the subsidiary’s strategy and minimises risk exposure.
  • Identifies and manages any governance breaches within the subsidiary and collaborate with relevant functions to ensure that the necessary internal controls are designed, the required corrective measured are implemented and the adequate awareness efforts are conducted.
  • Advises executives and employees on changes to the laws affecting the company.
  • Advises on civil matters that should be directed to external counsel.
  • Advises on statutory compliances.
  • Investigates if the subsidiary or a staff member does not comply with the law.
  1. Continuous Improvement
  • Contributes to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices considering ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  1. Policies, Processes & Procedures 

Recommends improvements to policies and directs the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective output.


  1. People Management

Contribute and lead the effective achievement of the Legal departmental objectives through setting individual objectives, recruiting qualified staff, managing performance, developing, and motivating staff, provision of formal and informal feedback and appraisal – in order to maximise subordinate and departmental performance. 


  1. Related Assignments 
  • Performs other related duties or assignments as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


  1. Qualification: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in law.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  1. Experience: 
  • 7+ years of experience in legal functions specially in Contracts and Agreements.
