Job Description

Manager, Light Maintenance Planning

Job Purpose:


To monitor and manage medium term aircraft maintenance planning activities for SAUDIA fleet with consideration of fleet commitment, production capability and qualifications and ensure timely accomplishment of schedule maintenance checks and fulfil the requirements of the Official Ground Schedule and aircraft availability and to cooperate with all Saudia airlines departments and strategy planning unit to maximize fleet availability and fleet utilization.


Managerial Accountabilities:


Strategy Formation and Implementation


  • Participate in the development and refinement of division’s strategy in line with the SBU vision and strategy and contribute to the overall process of corporate management and decision making to ensure the organization maximizes its short-, medium- and long-term profitability and returns to its shareholders.

Leadership and Direction


  • Provide overall direction for the effective achievement of the division objectives through effective leadership and by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing, and motivating team to maximize performance.
  • Collaborate with the colleagues in the Executive Leadership community, to synergize efforts across Air Transport for the successful achievement of strategic objectives.

Organization Structure


  • Together with Holding’s human capital function and Head of the division provide inputs in order to design an optimum organization structure and direct the development of the Information Technology structures so that resources are optimally utilized, and communication can take place in an efficient manner.

Budgeting and Financial Performance 


  • Direct the preparation and consolidation of the division budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues; areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures


  • Direct the development and oversee the implementation of the division policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls covering all areas of function so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.

Job Specific Accountabilities


  • Lead and manage light maintenance planning unit.
  • Manage and prioritize duties for light maintenance planning employees.
  • Evaluates and control the performance of light maintenance planning employees.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements actions to improve the performance of the unit in line with the corporate goals of the company
  • Participates on establishment of aircraft minimum ground time and fleet commitments.
  • Resolve potential maintenance and operational problems with other departments and divisions to release suitable and achievable maintenance plan.
  • Approves and release finalized Mid-term maintenance plan to production and all concerned departments.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, health, and environmental procedures in the section in-order to promote a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensures proper documentation of department activities.
  • Monitors the progress of production against the plan and ensures immediate response is taken to avoid delays and overruns.
  • Work closely with various planning groups at different stations to ensure correct job reporting into the system
  • Execute the maintenance schedule according to the plan.
  • Liaise with other related units for the maintenance requirements.
  • Collect information on routine maintenance tasks, information on non-routine maintenance tasks, Engineering Orders, Airworthiness Directives and others.
  • Consolidate the collected information into a workload forecast
  • Review the yearly operating plan
  • Evaluate and approve additional work requests from maintenance provider in coordination with engineering.
  • Work closely with Aircraft Tail Assignment (ATA) to plan maintenance routing according to production capabilities and resources.
  • Supervises preparation of the work scope of light maintenance checks.
  • Supervises preparation of the work package to improve ground time utilization. 
  • Supervises the preparation of timely and accurate departmental reports which conform to company and department requirements, polices and standards.
  • Recommend improvements to policies and supervise the implementation of procedures. 
  • Provide technical leadership in specialized planning discipline to support the department function sustaining capabilities that contribute significantly to the achievement of business objectives
  • Monitor and draw valid conclusion from industry-specific, global best practice in aircraft planning within the specialized discipline.

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant quality, health, safety, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the division to guarantee employee and assets safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude.
  Required Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification


  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering (Mechanical/ Electrical/ Aeronautical/ Avionics/Industrial or any Engineering related subject).

Minimum Experience


  • Minimum 9 years of experience in relevant role, in which 3 years in leadership role.
  • Experience in gulf region is preferred.
