Teams in the MENA Workplace: Bayt.com Infographic

Teams are instrumental for completing various tasks and projects at every company and organization. For many HR managers and recruiters teamwork skills are among the most important qualifications that are examined before hiring someone. Even if a specific job does not explicitly fall under an established team, professionals will always interact with coworkers and peers in order to complete their job responsibilities. Teamwork is fundamental for employees’ performance as well as for the company’s general goals and objectives.

In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, teams are also valuable for accomplishing the day-to-day tasks and placing the business on the path to success. In fact, the Bayt.com Infographic: Teams in the MENA Workplace, October 2016, revealed many favorable results in terms of teams’ effectiveness and productivity in our region. Looking at the characteristics and dynamics of teams is extremely helpful for ensuring the desired performance and success.

Below are some of the highlights from the Bayt.com Infographic: Teams in the MENA Workplace:

1. Characteristics of Teams in the MENA

While there are teams that contain hundreds of members, most teams in the MENA are small, consisting of two to five members each. Smaller teams tend to be more cohesive and are often easier to manage. Arranging for meetings, distributing tasks, and taking decisions can also be logistically smoother as an advantage of having smaller teams. Another trait of teams in the MENA is their skill level: more than half of the respondents believe that their team members are very skilled if not extremely skilled. Evidently, a higher skill level will have a positive impact on the productivity and success of the team.

2. Sharing the workload

Division of work and responsibilities between team members can be tricky and contentious. However, more than eight in 10 respondents in the MENA agree that work among their teams is spread equally and fairly. Not only does a fair division of workload help in mitigating undue conflict, it also warrants equal contribution and a unanimous sense of ownership over the outcome. More than half of the respondents agree that all team members and managers take credit for the success of the team. Similarly, more than 50% of the respondents think that failure is the responsibility of the entire team and not just one member or leader.

3. Communicating and resolving conflict

Teams aren’t effective if they cannot utilize their meetings productively, communicate openly, and resolve any impeding conflicts. Yet again, the Bayt.com infographic shows that teams in the MENA function very well. Nearly nine out of 10 professionals state that their teams resolve conflicts quickly and effectively. This is perhaps due to the open and participative communication style adopted by two thirds of MENA professionals all of the time. Without doubt, honest and inclusive communication can lead to more effective team dynamics and more efficient outcomes. In fact, the vast majority of teams in the MENA are able to deliver their work and meet their deadlines.
