The employees are human beings and certainly they will have special needs from time to time, the direct manager should cooperate with them as long as these needs within the normal range but in the absence of response may lose their loyalty, which is the most important element.

Narrow minded and bigoted!

I think people should consider special needs of team members as long as that doesn't negatively impact achieving the sought results in time and within budget and at the agreed quality measures.
