Communication and EQ play a big role.
It is getting to know the personality styles of your team and where possible to do resource allocation where the dynamics between members working together will be conducive to let the project move ahead.
It is important to let them feel comfortable to approach you.
Team members should feel encouraged to pitch ideas that adds value to the project.
It is about being a facilitator/mentor rather than a manager.

Any institution that needs an official with considerable experience in the field of walking and turn it must choose a team of employees and workers with competence and skill in the field of specialization of the institution, this official Respect all team without distinction Consultation and consultation without limitation Issuing laws with the team without arbitrariness Giving everyone his right without prejudice Listen to staff and stand by their side without ignoring them

There is no golden rule.
There are few tips that are popping in my mind.
Others might want to add more tips: a) have good open communication with your team.
Explain to them the importance of meeting the timelines.
What might happen if the timelines are not met.
Make them feel important.
b) have a very good project plan with timelines, highlighting the items that are on critical path or might cause overall project delays.
Inform the the key team members related to those areas and ensure they understand how their performance will affect the overall project delivery c) Have mini milestones along the project, and reward your team everytime a mini milestone is reached, even simple things like taking them out for a fancy lunch.
d) Keep your radar active, sence roadblocks early on, and do your bit to remove the roadblocks rather then create fuss on your team members for not meeting deadlines.
Roadblocks can be external, or internal...

First of All, I have to Give them Confidence in their Skills, Every Architect has a strength point where I have to recognize and endorse, Put together all different skills to benefit the project.

Second, Understand and respect every one's role in the Project, All Ideas are always welcome, especially in design process where team input is always better, however, role of each member has to be respected at the end.

Finally, I always believe that gathering for minutes and taking breaks together , enhance the quality of relation between the team members and always for the project's success.

The context here is important. However, when working with your team members, it is always in the project's best interest to collaborate and communciate with all parties, those directly or indirectly involved. Team inclusivity is key to successful project delivery, especially in the IT industry.

Erika, I partially agree with your views about being 'an approachable colleague' for your team.
Because the bottom line is: Every manager must maintain a balance - between formal and informal..
It is inevitable that every manager has to be the DECISION MAKER and/or the ESCALATION POINT.
So s/he has to adopt a neutral and balanced mind, to be able to manage such sensitive and crucial situations as and when they arise.
Bottom line is: Manager/Senior Manager is the Face of the organization for the customer(s) and the interface between their team(s) and management.
Wishing all a very happy Ramadan! Take care Thank you With regards Vineet Aggarwal
