If you are an IT Expert then its better to buy a free Dos Laptop also if you'd like to install Multi OS its a better choice.

I perfer the better hardware rather than the base OS.

But any how every one has their own choices....

In my opinion, if you do it in order to install a cracked operation system which is illegal, it's a bad idea.

If you want to install an open source system such as Linux then it is recommended to  buy freeDOS laptop to cut the costs . But if you are going to use windows then better have windows pre installed

unless you are comfortable with working on a CUI OS. Such a laptop is usually cheaper than the ones with pre-installed Windows.

Yes definitely. you can buy your own OS, or you can download your preferred Linux distro and use it. I don't like the idea of someone else installing my OS, I even flash the Bios before using any machine. And you need to know some IT stuff in order to do it.

There's no harm in buying freeDOS or even a no OS laptop unless you feel like always spending money to Micro$oft... besides, most Linux or Unix like variants now are as good its window$ equivalent unless you are into gaming then its a different story.

Thanks for asking If it fits your requirements, go for it. You can always upgrade to Windows8 from freeDOS. Also if you already have a licensed operating system, you absolutely don't have to pay for the cost of license when buying a laptop. Some laptops sure have a hardware upgrade possibility for future aspects. Hope it helps you.

First things first - say no to piracy !

Secondly, does the computer (you are planning to buy with MS/Free DOS on it) support other OS's you have in mind or you plan to use? Does it support version of Microsoft Windows you are planning to install over it? i.e. does the hardware really have enough resources to run either version of Microsoft Windows and/or minimal distro of linux? And! if you know the OS installation procedure and has better hardware I would recommend you buy it.

I personally prefer buying new hadrware without even MS/Free DOS because I know where to obtain a compatible distro of linux for it how to install Linux it on said machine.

If you are a normal computer user, and want to get some OS installed from a computer shop, yet! you will have to pay the OS license as well as services fee, and you are not recommended to buy such machine. And yes! if you plan to get linux installed or you can install it yourself (especially GUI version) make sure you know how to use it (first) e.g. an older version of Ubuntu with smallest desktop environment.
