Keys to leadership success

#1 – Leadership secret: Every leader that is now at the top has started as a follower from the bottom. With this in mind you can start to break through all limitations and limiting-beliefs that have prevented you from becoming a leader.

#2 – Gain knowledge, continuously! This key to leadership success is a very important one, as it is essential, even if you aren’t a leader, yet. Gaining more knowledge helps you to improve yourself, your skills and your abilities. The fact that you graduated from school or university does not mean that you never have to learn something. You will only be able to develop leadership skills and be considered to be a true leader if you are good at what you are doing! Or would you honestly follow a self-proclaimed leader that is not excellent at his work, or does not even know what he does?

#3 – Be committed! Commitment is not only necessary to be an excellent example for your subordinates, but it is also an important key to leadership success. A leader will only be able to surround himself with ambitious followers if he is totally committed to what he is doing.

#4 – Have a plan! The utmost important key to leadership success is having a precise plan. A leader points the direction to his followers, but having no plan or not being able to communicate the objectives will create confusion and demotivation amongst the team-members. A great leader is clear about the goals and objectives he wants to achieve and sets his goals as specific and clear as possible. Additionally, it is important that the leader is able to identify possible obstacles and potential problems and solves them before they can affect his team.

#5 – Be innovative! Successful leaders are the ones that are doing things differently. To be more precise: their innovation and the ambition to improve certain procedures might just have enabled these persons to become true leaders. Their innovation might even be characterized by the creativity to find better and more effective ways to overcome obstacles, remove constraints and to deal with upcoming problems.

#6 – Become solution-oriented! A person that is problem-oriented focuses on the question: “Why did the problem occur”, which is only helpful to avoid similar problems in the future. A successful leader instead asks himself the question: “How can we deal with the problem and make the best out of it?”, which is more effective.

#7 – Have a vision! Another very important key to leadership success is to have a vision. Every leader has a vision that embodies his passions and dreams, which he communicates to his followers. At best he will be able to peak their motivation and strengthen incentive amongst the team members. The vision of the leader provides direction for the team and creates a common objective.

#8 – Take responsibility! The next key to leadership success is the ability to ease the burden of responsibility from the followers, so that they can solely focus on their tasks and goals. While there are many people that can peak performance while being stressed and having a huge responsibility, others might not be able to do so. In fact: a lot of employees can achieve better results, when not having the burden of responsibility on their shoulders.

A successful leader has its own fame.He is known for his words and behaviour.

A successful leader should be influencial who never give up with his company. This creates a environment of trusting and collaborating in between the peoples and the company is free and open minded and have perfect unity inside them.

There is no one only key. The good leader is that one who can get the best from his team in way to achieve their objetives. A good leader listen to the team, set them on challenges, participate empower them. Success as failures are both shared for everyone.

The basis for leadership to be deemed as successful is the influence the leader has on his/her followers; the more the followers and the more passionate they are about their leader, the more successful he/she is.

This can be achieved by uniting your subordinates under a common goal, by inspiring them with strong motivation in order for them individually and the team as a whole to excel, while at the same time and when a situation demands it, coming in front in order for them to unite behind you and give you their unquestionable loyalty.

By succeeding in those, your influence as a leader will gradually grow and your position as a leader will be further empowered.

I hope I was of help.

The answer to that question, it seems to me, lies in whether the goal is to get others to work from a place of compliance or from a place of commitment. I believe that is the difference between influential leadership and authoritative leadership. Working within an influential leadership model, committed employees will give up discretionary time to solve problems, serve customers, and think creatively. On the other hand, people working under authoritative leadership– or –command and control, as we more commonly know it will work to achieve compliance, doing only what needs to be done to get by.

It is well documented that organizations perform better when all employees work collaboratively across organizational lines, and are allowed to voice their opinions and have healthy open discussions. Leaders who are great at listening to diverse opinions and can facilitate teams in moving toward solutions–without 'telling' team members what to do–are leaders of influence that can create positive working environments, remove organizational obstacles, and provide tools employees need to perform their jobs effectively. Influential leaders create environments that are:

  • Trusting
  • Collaborative
  • Open
  • Sharing

In return, employees will use their talents and skills to achieve the mission and vision of the organization. This is especially true of younger workers coming into the workforce today who do not respond well to –command and control– leaders or to those who merely exert their authority. They want freedom and control over their areas of responsibility and to use their talents and skills to solve problems. Gen X and Gen Y are motivated through teamwork, with fewer rules and goals. What they don't want is to be micro- managed by a leader constantly telling them what to do and how to do it. Authoritative leaders who attempt to control the organization and the people who work in it will find that employees disengage and are less committed to helping the organization achieve its goals. Leading from a place of authority does not create the trusting environment required for success. Instead it often leads to second-guessing, potential hidden agendas, and a less productive workforce.

Effective leaders help people understand how their contributions fit into the broader vision and inspire the team to achieve the greater good of the organization. Inspiration is not mandated, dictated or driven by authority. It is achieved by enlisting others, touching the hearts of employees while engaging their brains–through the influence of leaders.

While authoritative leadership only has room for one leader, influential leadership allows the leader in everyone to be brought forward. In today's fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, everyone has to be a leader.
