is it logical for someone with most of his experience is in Technical and service maintenance to switch to sales engineer? what are the advantages and disadvantages for a sales engineer over service engineer? if you are someone who switch from service to sales tell me do you feel engaged (as an engineer) or what matters is money and everything is the same? thank you
I believe everyone can be a sales person,unfortunately success is an other story.

Sales is a vast arena. Depending on the type of product and its know how person has many a times swith from technical t sales. People who are technically sound are more efficient is selling and marketing the product then the person of sales & marketing have little knowledge about the product. Inorder to switch from technical to sales ..keep in mind your industry segment same .for example .like from mechanical switching to Finance is not advisable or any viceversa...
Depending on the soft skills , I think it will be benifit especially if you will be sales to the service/maintenance sector
Yes technical competence can in some instances be an asset when customers are looking for technical solutions provided that the person is capable of closing the sale.
