Design drawings are prepared by a design office for a particular job. They reflect consept design which is proposed and they may or may not be superposed with other systems. A perfect design drawing should be as much as like a shop drawing but in practice this is not always true.

Shop drawings are prepared by contracting companies mainly or should be prepared another design company. The purpose of those drawings are to reflect the real installation and proper details. These are guidelines for installation. All conflicts and deviations in design drawings shall be corrected. Even design drawings are perfect; still there can be some changes as per client requests or design changes.

The next step is preparing as-built drawings which reflect actual installation on site.

Hope above is useful for you.
