It is very important that kids understand what is the computer and its functions instead of just memorizing the way to access their favorite game or social media site.

As an introduction, give them a brief idea about what is the computer is and how it works, what are the main parts of a computer, what are the main functions that would be useful for students, how data is organised driver, folder, file (+ moving, creating, deleting, copying files...), understanding different formats concept, what is a virus or spam... the rest of the course should be divided between Office (mostly word, with a small summary on the others), some graphic or image editing applications (it can be as simple as Paint), the last part should be a couple of courses introducing web browsing (concepts like new window, new tab, browsers, key words, search with or without quotations...)

well in my opinion i would say its best to teache them the fundumentals of a computer then start off with office the interchange with fun little activiy (depending on what age group) that they can enjoy while having them learn the history in between.

To me as typing is a skill, similarly computer is also a skill. They are interdependent and mutually supporting, and that is why one cannot separate them from each other.

So far computer skills are concerned, you know there are two things, i.e.

developing softwares (writing programme instructions), and operating these softwares,

once again both these needs the skill of typing. For example! suppose you are a good programmer (having sound logic of computer programming) but you don't know typing, how would you write/type programme instructions, and how would you be able to develope a software? It shows that typing is most important, and is like a backbone of computer programming and software/application operations. So on the basis of the above, I recommend that as a  basic skill pupils must be taught typing before going to other basics of computer.
