A site engineer is part of the site management team, and takes some of the responsibility for security, health and safety, and organising and supervising materials and people. Site engineers mark out the site, make sure designs are applied correctly and liaise with main and sub-contractors and the site manager. Regular liaison with the client, its representatives, and any consultants is another key part of the job.
it depends on your role, but basicaly a site engineer is there for QC as well, he has the expertise for certain specific parts, but beware of the shift in responsability.
A site engineer to work as a QC is advantageous because you have already an idea on the works and you already witnessed some inspections. What is to be added on your ideas would be the familiarization of inspections & testings to be conducted on every works. Reading standards, QC program, methods statements, procedures and etc could help in conducting QC jobs.
Site engineer and QC works as a team in construction site. Both has task to perform but not too far different from one another. In most cases, a site engineer is considered as the junior role and as you grow in the field of construction, you may learn QC works until your job become the later (this is just an example). But be careful in accepting QC works if you are not familiar with the standard work procedures and not reviewing approved documents. It may also affect your works as a site engineer and may take some of your private time to get learn to it. At the end of the day, it is good to learn more and become specialist on it.
