The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Research Assistant to support the UAEU Start-up Research project titled "Next-Generation Toroidal Propeller Systems: Computational Design and Experimental Validation for UAV Applications." The research assistant will contribute to computational and experimental research on toroidal propellers for UAV applications. Duties may include CAD development, meshing, ANSYS Fluent CFD simulations, aeroacoustic prediction, 3D printing of propeller prototypes, thrust-rig testing, flow visualization, acoustic measurements, data analysis, literature review, and preparation of journal and conference outputs. Two focus areas are available: (1) CFD modelling and aeroacoustic prediction; and (2) experimental testing, instrumentation, flow visualization, and acoustic analysis.


Minimum Qualifications:


An appropriate Master's or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering with documented evidence to support the following: • Good technical writing and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team. • Flexible approach and initiative in executing research tasks safely and accurately.


Preferred Qualifications:


• Experience with ANSYS Fluent, CAD/meshing, CFD post-processing, MATLAB, or aeroacoustic modelling. • Experience with laboratory instrumentation, thrust stands, load cells, torque/RPM measurement, data acquisition, high-speed imaging, PIV/flow visualization, or acoustic measurements. • Familiarity with UAV systems, propeller design, additive manufacturing/3D printing, and experimental aerodynamics. • Demonstrated willingness to support laboratory setup, calibration, testing, and student/research-team activities. • Commitment to safe laboratory practice and a healthy workplace.
