About the job SAFETY OFFICER

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:


We are seeking a highly qualified Safety Officer to join our team and ensure the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) are maintained at our workplace. The Safety Officer will play a critical role in implementing and monitoring safety protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and health hazards.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Ensure compliance with all applicable HSSE regulations, standards, and guidelines to create a safe and healthy work environment.
  2. Conduct regular inspections of premises, equipment, and work processes to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-conformities.
  3. Collaborate with department heads and employees to develop and implement effective safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
  4. Provide training to employees on safety protocols, hazard identification, risk assessment, and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  5. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  6. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and safety-related documentation.
  7. Oversee the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and substances in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  8. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives through regular audits, performance metrics, and feedback mechanisms.
  9. Liaise with regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders on safety-related matters and ensure timely reporting of incidents as required.
  10. Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes in occupational health and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH Level 3 certification or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a high-risk industry such as construction, manufacturing, or oil and gas.
  • Proven track record of implementing and managing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant HSSE regulations, standards, and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, ANSI).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in conducting safety inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training sessions.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Fire Safety preferred.
