Why is solidworks preferred over autocad?

AutoCAD (Inventor) is routed in2D modelling and is still, predominantly a command/keyboard software. It handles3D modelling very well and is great for many things... however there is a paradigm shift in3D modelling and SolidWorks/Catia is at the forefront. The idea is simple: the ability to do both top-down and bottom-up parametric modelling that is "mouse-driven" (including a3D mouse). In theory, your hands should never have to touch the keyboard if you map enough functions to your3D/mouse buttons. The future of CAD is likely to use interfaces more similar to the microsoft Kinect and the "Leap", as this transition takes place, keyboard-centric software will fall behind. This is why people often say "SolidWorks is more intuitive".To be clear: AutoCAD is also parametric and can also be used for top-down and bottom-up design, but the way it goes about it is based on it's legacy as a2D keyboard driven program.

The Solid work over Auto CAD is necessary for non-Technical person because the cant's understand2-D drawing, due to3-D Drawing all view shown like as real Object so solid work preferred for those people. 

For Mechanical I recomdent Solidworks, you can do motion and stress studies. 

eco freindly software....compare other software( catia creo nastran nxcam cad)..... get accurate solutions...

SOLIDWORKS is very much easy to view an solid model than AUTOCAD and clear model is view through this software and AUTOCAD is much older than SOLIDWORKS. SOLIDWORKS is user friendly and which is easily learn by any other softwares of3D modelling but AutoCAD is not that much. that's it

AutoCAD is the oldest computer Aided drawing software. There are a number of AutoCAD professionals around. 

SolidWorks is the Modern CAD software, it is much  better than AutoCAD.  Its user friendly, its elegant,  It's fast, it's being used in modern top level industries. The best thing is anyone can master it easily. Its tutorials are available easily. That's the reason.

AutoCAD is for2D drawing whereas solidworks is for3D Modeling.

The parallel software of Solidworks from Autodesk (The makers of AutoCAD) is Autodesk Inventor.

A2D drawing sotware is primarily for making2D views of an object or machine whereas a3D modeling software is for creating a physical object in a virtual environment such that it gives the real feel of the object being designed.

Apart from this, objects modeled in a modeling software like solidworks can be further analysed with the help of analysis softwares like ANSYS but same is not possible with a2D drating software like AutoCAD.

In short AutoCAD creates only the views showing what the object looks like from different angles whereas Solidworks creates the object itself.
