Junior Structural Engineer

Job Summary As a structural engineer, you will be working on specific engineering design and analysis tasks under the supervision of a Senior Structura l Engineer. The nature and progression of the assignments and the level of responsibilities will depend on your performance and willingness to grow.

we design structures such as bridges, high-rise design, precast concrete engineering and post-tensioning design. The firm's core work is structural engineering; however, is increasingly holistic at its approach to buildings and it has divisions in MEP, Geotechnical and emerging construction technology such as 3D printing of concrete, technology and 3D laser scanning.

VAES’s mission is to reduce the amount of raw materials we design in our buildings and bridges by using optimization algorithms and machine learning.
VAES consists of a team of software developers, civil engineers, machine learning experts, architects and graphic designers that builds tools that engineers can use to design and manufacture the next generation of cities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and, the ability to self-direct and independently research technical solutions are expected. Moderate technical knowledge and software experience is expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Assist other engineers in preparing project designs using the latest codes and standards.
+ Perform structural design and calculations as directed by senior engineers.
+ Prepare design spreadsheets following code procedures for specific structural elements.
+ Use FEM design software, in-house spreadsheets, in-house developed software and prepare manual calculations as required.
+ Understand the limitations of software and verify the software output.
+ Design using different materials
+ Prepare cost estimates, material take-off, and design schedules.
+ Coordinate with other disciplines.
+ Prepare reports and presentations as directed by senior engineers.
+ Coordinate with BIM Modelers to produce detailed drawings from sketches and/or prepare structural drawings and sketches to a high standard using BIM tools.
+ Follow company standards and procedures including design and checking.
+ Coordinate tasks and work schedules to ensure that project objectives are achieved.
+ Attend team daily meetings and communicate with senior engineers regarding your progress.
+ Perform other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications and skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering
+ 1-3 years of experience.
+ Strong theoretical engineering knowledge.
+ Open-minded with the ability to follow instructions and work under close supervision.
+ Able to work in a Team working environment.
+ Able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
+ Highly motivated and willing to learn and meet new challenges.
+ Flexible in an environment with frequent changes in deadlines.
